Wiz/PM build advice

Unread post by Vartigy »

Hey lords and ladies,

Mucking around with an idea.
Curious as to what you eddy experts think on this for functionality as a decent caster that obviously has a few summons up their sleeve.
Yes, finished Epic Stat Int on uneven, predicting a +3 int item to supplement.

DC's bout right?
CLs bout right?
Unsure how this'll handle epic areas and occasional PvP depending on how it goes with rp development.

You might as well predict a +4 INT head piece, since they are for sale in shops.

Aside from that, the build is fine, and there is nothing you won't be able to tackle with it (PvE or PvP). Said this, Craft Wand and CE + ICE made it so you had no place for one between Empower and Maximise Spell metamagics, which are very important for such a character (especially for sheer spell management, and against stuff like Constructs).
This twisted culture got you feeding from its hand
But you will lose that food if you don't meet all their demands
And loyal is the soldier that gets slaughtered with the lambs
Examining the blueprints got you questioning the plans

Cheers for the feedback.
What sort of spell repertoire would lead towards requiring the use of max and empower metas? They take up valuable high level slots from what i understand?
Wand crafting was to make healing rods (neg energy spells) for undead summons. Or do they have good regen?
And, CE/ICE were an obvious backup plan to ensure AC remains half decent.

PM vampires have natural regen. 5 HP per round IIRC.

And you can't target your summon with a single target hostile spell with the new summoning system. So the only spell you can use to heal your summons would be negative energy burst. Which could theoretically be put onto a wand, maybe (assuming BG's system allows for it, since it's a custom spell). I don't see why you wouldn't just prepare a few, though. I mean, it's only needed for emergencies since the summon has its own basic regen anyway.

You'd be surprised how effective Empowered or Maximized spells can be in comparison to their higher level counter parts. Meta-magic is all about having control over your spellbook. As a simple example if I want to speed run quests it pays to have extra casts of invisibility and haste. Extend can work to fill up 3 and 4 level slots with haste, but quicken can give a few more casts as well. Not always what you want to do, but when you do want it it is very nice.

Empower/Maximize can really benefit because those spells may do more damage than a comparable spell on the level it takes up.

roger that! will highly consider ditching wand craft then. beyond making bits and pieces of cash from the wands on market.
But could be RPable that he/she loves wand crafting.... much thought required.

When you put it that way, it certainly makes sense! So how does AC for the caster go without that extra 6? Or is it not too much a problem with an abundance of DR, ... ooo... just thought of the link back to wand crafting. Have DR spells on wands as backup. Yes it'll take a round to use and bring back online, but that way, 'technically' don't need the ICE/CE. Expensive way of managing it though.

In my experience more AC is always welcome, but on a caster I would always prioritize DC and meta magic. Proper positioning and the correct defensive spells make the AC from ICE irrelevant. I have 3 wizard types and not one of them has combat expertise. One is a gish type, one a dc hips mage and one a crafter/caster. Of the three the gish is the only one that died once (still Calodans fault! :p) If you kill the baddies before they get close they can't hurt you anyway...

Cheers Chad, appreciate the feedback. I agree, good defense is a great offense.

Just wondering. When i click ur link i only see "That build is not publically available!" then a front page with lots of builds.

How can i see the build you made?

This happans with alot of builds posted in the forums. Does it mean that the maker had removed the build :/ ?

Many might be like myself? I don't like having my builds publicly available once someone has commented and its all done and the character made.

Meh, I was curious about the build.
If the text is this color, I am on duty, everything else is just my humble opinion.
