No doubt the faithful hear of the sermon given in the East Gate district. The text of the sermon is put up on display in the temple.

Over the past few days, Ameris Santraeger is seen doing some shifts in the infirmary of the Temple of Ilmater. Having formally left the temple, this is more by way of providing assistance to the existing clergy than as part of the regular work of the Temple. If asked, he makes clear his presence is only temporary, but that he is glad to be back in his old role, even if only for a day or two

A fair priestess entered the temple adorned in a deep purple robe with red of the finest silk and filligree. It seemed ostentatious along with her adornments, particularly in contrast of the garbs and tunics worn by the Ilmatari, but the designs were in good taste and indicative of stature. She greets Sister Adolina, and made way to read the recent public adresses made by the Brother Ameris.

An elven ranger enters the Ilmateri temple escorting two hunters clearly in need of aid. The ranger greets Sister Andolina and informs her about the hunters. In the end of the discussion Mendel would ask of the whereabouts of Ameris, then help her get the two hunters in the infirmary room, if his help is needed.

Clearly tired from the long trip Mendel sits in the main room and opens a bottle of wine. He pulls out a satchel of prayers and begins to read through it.

Ameris would have attended the temple in the days after the patrol, and seen to what aid can be provided for the two hunters. Asking them how they came to be in such dire straights, if able.

It is announced once more that the often absent Priest of Ilmater Ameris Santraeger will be giving a public sermon in the East Gate district in a few days.

The text of the recent sermon is made available to read in the Temple of Ilmater.

A visit was made again by the same priestess, reading the sermon given. This time she was adorned in protective armor from a visit outside the city. She did not linger much longer after the sermon had been read through.

The priest Ameris conducts a private vigil in the shrine overnight. There is sadness on his features when he enters, and remorse when he exits. His lips are thin with discomfort.

With grim aspect, Ameris pins up a note in the Temple of Ilmater. A like note would be placed up in the Temple of Tymora.

Let it be known that on 27 Ches 1353, the Khazark of the Thayan Enclave in Baldur's Gate, Kahanak Habildof, did before the gates of the Friendly Arm Inn espy two defenders of freedom, namely Mendel of Darasha and Ameris Santraeger, priest of the Broken God. Both men whose ideals compel them to risk their lives so that others can live free of fear.

Kahanak placed upon his collar a brooch in the shape of a Harp and Stars, a symbol that has stood for the right to live free of fear since the days of storied Myth Drannor. A statement to those who would defend the weak that he, Kahanak, was untouchable, and a statement to those in fear of him, his coin, his influence, and his magics, that none would protect them.

Mendel of Darasha did ask for the removal of this brooch, and was denied. Kahanak was warned that his implied threat would not go unanswered, should he leave the safety of the inn.

Kahanak chose to clandestinely recruit two Halfling assassins from the Ebon Blade to his cause, and walk north accompanied by one of his knights and a squire, halting beyond Bentley's jurisdiction to offer battle. Let it be known that even when battle was about to be joined, he was requested once more to yield up his abuse of the symbols of freedom.

Kahanak could have handed over the brooch, or teleported away, or escaped under the sanctuary spell he used. He could have done this at any point. Instead, in his pride, he chose violence.

Let it be known, then, that the Khazark of the Thayan Enclave, Kahanak Habildof was bested in battle. With him were one of his knights and a squire, and the two Halfling assassins of the Ebon Blade that came to his aid. One of the halflings fell in battle, and the two knights were injured but spared.

Here follow the crimes in the eyes of the Righteous be recorded as known and admitted, either through Kahanak's own lips, or those of reliable witnesses:

• - False testimony to the Broken God.
  - False donations to the Broken God.
  - Plotting the blackmail of the Temple of Ilmater into entering into immoral trade deals with the Thayan Enclave.
  - Collaboration with the enemies of Baldur's Gate, in the form of the Zhentarim, prior to the recent treaty.
  - Theft of a Harper's pin.
  - Hiring of the street urchins of Baldur's Gate to work in unsafe conditions on the Thayan Enclave's roof.
  - Purchase of a weaponised Talonite plague during the war against the Blight.
  - Slave owning and trading.
  - Abuse and murder of slaves, monstrous and human.
  - Harassment, manipulation, coercement, attempted kidnapping and threat towards various women to secure their submission, often to his sexual advances. The following list limited only to those who suffered more than most so as to conserve ink:
  • *Cecilia Lafayette.
    *Telia Navra.
    *Alessia De'Lille.
    *Wren Di'Corvi.
    *Mara Stormwind.
  
  - Murder of Eldarian Al'maire.
  - Hiring of the Dead Crow assassins to murder the witness to the murder of Eldarian Al'maire.
  - Hiring of the Dead Crow assassins to kidnap and torture Cecilia Lafayette for the name of the witness to the murder of Eldarian Al'maire.
  - Torture and murder of Telia Navra.

Kahanak is also the likely cause of the death of the Red Wizard Zhar upon the latter's decision to quit the Enclave.

For all these reasons above, when Mendel of Darasha left the fate of Kahanak Habildof, Khazark of the Thayan Enclave of Baldur's Gate, to me, Ameris Santraeger, priest of the Broken God, I executed him for his crimes in a place beyond the reach of Duchal law, for crimes that have not been punished by Duchal law. The Broken God knows no borders. I pray for the man's soul. I weep not for his flesh.

I spoke in Sermon recently that those who prey on others should repent or fear judgment, as those who have slept, awaken. And so I have stood with those who make those words a reality, with a mailed fist clenched in fury. I must offer apology now to those who witnessed my discomfiture as I did the deed. It was ungallant and I shall do penance.

I write these words so that the truth is known as to what moved merciful and goodly hearts to violence that day, as sure enough there will be those who wonder and question. The theft of a brooch was not the cause of it. Nor even was the threat to those who need protection that lay behind it. This was only the last drop in a bucket of sin, and surely, it overflowed.

The cruel and the wicked rest in Darkness. Yes, the Darkness is theirs. The shadows at Twilight, however, those the wicked should look to with worry, and consider their repentance anew. For they have been watched, they ever have been, and will continue to be.

Sure enough, the priest Ameris spends another night in the chapel on a vigil - perhaps the promised penance. He enters with grim determination, and departs both tired and with pain in his eyes.
