The Healing Pacifist

Unread post by Flasmix »

I'm thinking about making a pacifist character who acts as a support to others in the party. I'm thinking Cleric with Hierophant would be best as you can heal and buff in Sanctuary.

As combat skills won't be important, can somebody help me make such a build?

What I'm looking for is;
- Decent to high AC
- Top of the line healing
- Powerful turning
- High Spot (Maybe a 3/4 Rogue, Bard or Druid dip with Able learner?)

Thank you for your assistance

Cleric / Hierophant ... / Warpriest 8-) (it has spot and free healing spells !)

Ok a tad more seriously cleric 16 / Hierophant 10 / Bodyguard 4, Bodyguard gives you that guarding the lord (20% better than shield other spell), a +3 universal saves protective aura and access to spot, +10% speed is a little cherry on top.

Take the healing feats and heal skill, job's done.

I did on Damien with the exact same idea this build below.

http://nwn2db.com/build/?255486

Dragon is Hierophant.

I had around level 28 80-90 healing with not so great heal gear unbuffed.
Player of:

Damian Pascal, - Run away/dead. - Background - Corruption from Within
Amenthes Serb, Knight - Gone missing/Supposed dead Background
Tamzim Renima, mercenary - Handed over to the fist. Background
Kiran, Golden Wheel - Presumed dead
Althalous Fenwick, Paladin of Mystra. - A memory lost

- Decent to high AC is easy to acquire with buffs and Improved Combat Expertise feat.
- Top of the line healing, unfortunately this demand makes you require Hierophant PRC.
- Powerful turning kind of makes you want to focus on nothing but cleric, but apparently Hierophant PRC does offer turn undead protection.
- High spot would mean you have to go for some base class or PRC dip.

With the above demands, I guess it is pretty fruitless to recommend Cleric 30 as your build. You could go for the Protection domain to get Divine Protection - The cleric is able to cast an improved form of Sanctuary that sets the save difficulty class at 10 + Cha Modifier + Cleric Level. This has a duration of 1 round per caster level + the cleric’s Charisma modifier.

Thus a level 30 cleric would have DC of 40 with charisma score of 10, and for you it could be higher since you wanted powerful turning. The only downside is that you would have to give up on some spot and top of the line healing. (Although you could invest in the Heal Skill.)

Anyhow, if you are willing to let go of the high turn undead requirement. Monk 3/Sacred Fist 10/Cleric 7/Hierophant 10 could be exactly what you look for. You could even go for high wisdom and wear no arms or armour to show off your pacifism.

I have built so many healing builds, though I don't think I have made most of them public. There are certain things you want to consider in optimizing a healer.

Healing spells are quite limited in their uses. Its fairly easy to chew through them unless your party has high ac.

Healing kits are pretty cheap and only limited by how many you can carry. I am not sure if you can still use two a round, its been awhile since I've been in game.

The main downside to healkits is their weight. Playing a support character you don't want high strength so you can focus on int for skills or wis for spells. The solution comes from limiting your carry weight as much as possible. Pure cleric has the huge downside of having to carry a fullplate around. You could be using that space for more heal kits.

The solution to this is a monk dip. Monk has a few upsides, access to skills, high ac without needing a fullplate/shield which reduces weight but the looked over benefit for not using a shield is monkey grip. Taking monkey grip allows you to dual wield staves of curing from candlekeep for an additional +5 to heal with a small sacrifice to weight.

With 14 base str and a +2 item you can carry around 100 heal kits no worries on a monk.

I havent had much time to revise my healer builds since Hierophant was released but it should be easy enough to replace 6-10 cleric levels with it.

Halsey (my oghmite doctor's build)

I have had a few other ideas of concepts. One was a painbearer ilmateri. My ilmateri priest (layana) loved to use shield other on her party, but the problem was her terrible hp. She once died instantly while having shield other on the whole party in a dm event when the dm sent a fireball our way. The solution was maxing con which gives ac too through fist of the forest. I am not sure why I didn't add sacred fist, but you would have to choose between that or hierophant. Here is an example..

From a support standpoint I still think bards can top clerics. Cleric buffs diminish in value compared to quality of gear of your party where bard inspiration/greater heroism/haste are always good no matter how geared your party is. With a cleric dip a bard can get the heal skill for when their hymn of requiem is down. They will not have a panic button (mass heal) like clerics do but bards can really satisfy healing needs. Bards have better social/detection skills. A cleric dip for a bard gives them edm access giving them great offense ability too and having high str allows more heal kits. Here was the bard I played Varra

I know these dont satisfy what you want with turn undead, but I thought I should put some ideas there for you to consider.

One thing that cleric has over bard is Restoration line of spells...
Bard will be a better "in combat" healer, due to Requiem and inspire regeneration, and he also has some healing spells in his book.

Bards are so good at everything :/

If you go with cleric i suppose you could go morninglord to add some great turning to your arsenal. Hierophant only has one special feat for healers, so you dont need to take whole 10 levels of it.

Cleric 6 / Morninglord 10/ Hierophant 4 / Warpierst 10 maybe???
Hey, I just lost it, And this is crazy, But here's my login, So PM me, maybe?

A few of the builds interest me greatly here. The 4 body guard seems like a nice one.

Some of the monk/sacred fist ones do too. What kind of AC are you able to hit on those kinds of builds out of curiosity?

I already have a bard support character and he's... Well... Boring.

If you want a dedicated healer, go:

14 Cleric/10 Hierophant/3 Bodyguard/3 Warpriest. Take the natural leader background feat, max wisdom.

From, Hierophant, take Blast Infidel, Faith Healer, Inscribe Rune (more healing spells), and Spellpower I/II.

Take Augment Healing, the Healing Domain, and remember to be a good character (so you can spontaneously convert spells into cures). I'd recommend Kossuth as a deity and picking up the Fire Domain as well as Healing Domain. Fire Domain gives you Fire Seeds, which lets you produce perfected alchemist fire. These can make for a good offense when its needed, and you can also sell them for funding.

You should only need heal, spellcraft, and concentration. UMD 13 and Tumble 10 are optional and I don't think they are required for this kind of build. You should be able to get away with some 12 or 14 INT.

Be an aasimar. More wis, more heal.

Take toughness, epic toughness, and rescue. All other epic feats can be devoted to great WIS. (If you start with 20 wis and do that, you'll end up with 30 base wisdom. You can either pick up a +2 wis ite, or that +4 wis -1 STR amulet from the hell merchant.)

Because you took toughness and epic toughness, you can afford to lose some con.

I'd start with: 14 STR, 10 DEX, 12 CON, 12 INT, 20 WIS, 10 CHA

10 (Base)
+ 4 (Natural Armor)
+ 4 (Deflection)
+ 5 (Dexterity)
+ 10 (Wisdom)
+ 5 (Armor Enchantment)
+ 6 (ICE)
+ 5 (Mithral Breast Plate or Scale Mail.)
+ 3 (Sacred Fist AC bonus)
+ 3 (Tumble)
+ 4 (Dodge)
+ 1 (Armor Skin)
+ 1 (Luck of Heroes)
= 61

Edit: in stock NWN2 a sacred fist gets monk wisdom ac bonus in light armor. I think it might have been changed here, but I cannot find a mention of such a change anywhere. Thus the AC you are looking at is basically 56~61~.
