Demi-human knowing human religions or other demi-human

Unread post by SBlack »

My elf lives in the forest most of the time, but went to a monestary to train as a monk. A situation came up where another player flashed their holy symbol of a human god via emote. Kinda think they wanted us to know, but the individual logged before I could ask via tell. His total mod is 9 in lore religion. I find myself uncertain of what to pit the DC against. If a DM could just roll and give me a yes / no answer that would be great!

Thanks.

Well first I ask what sort of human god. Usually such a symbol of Lathander or other such greater gods are easily recognizable by anyone whos traveled out side of your forest. In truth I would judge it so easy to recognizing it is one of those instances that a roll is not called for. It is nearly impossible for an adventurer to grow in such a vacuum that they could not recognize the Major human gods.

Having ranks of 9 in religion makes you well versed in common knowledge. Common knowledge would include recognizing most holy symbols of major races of faerun that your character realistically may have encountered sometime in their life. In this case humans, I would go as far as to say a character with 9 ranks in religion would recognize the symbol of any minor human deity and up with little to no challenge. Probably would also recognize Jergal even though he is a demi god, but that is only because of his importance in the life death cycle that all faerun people regardless of religion face.

So with out knowing more detail which god, chances are you probably did not have to roll, and you could roll for fun but if it was a major god of the human race, the dc was probably 10.. and rolling a 1 on a skill check doesnt mean auto fail, unlike an attack roll.

MY view atleast, some other dm might weigh in =)
My personal view is in red, for I am fancy.
