This normally happens if you're using a public CD key that you've found online, or if you've shared your CD key in the past with someone and they are also playing. Or if your CD key's been compromised and someone decided to use it (but this is an uncommon problem these days).

Unfortunately the only way to get around the error is to A) get a new CD key by buying the game off GOG.com or elsewhere, or B) waiting for the person who's sharing your CD key to log off so that you can log on. They'll get the same error if they try to log on while you are online.

If you did buy the game from GOG.com, I know there was some issue with them where they were occasionally giving out the same CD key or something to multiple purchasers? Just hearsay, but I recall it being an issue a couple of years ago. If this is the case, you'll need to contact GOG directly to request a new CD key from them.
