Pfft, we all know the true high skill PvP was in Ultima Online. It was the closest thing I've seen to balanced I've seen, since you leveled up individual skills over a class.

I also see this as an pure OOC area, as the results cannot be carried towards RP. Else something like this can happen:

"Hey, do you know John Doe?"
"Oh yeah, he's pretty weak. I killed him several times yesterday."
Hawke wrote:have everyone debuffed upon entering to prevent "buffbots" would need to be set up. So everyone is on an even playing field.
This would require something to protect players on entering the area. Otherwise some would just camp there and wait for unbuffed players to enter.

ToA was the worst expansion ever made by any game company out there. Mythic effed up on that one. Thankfully there were servers that excluded it altogether.

It will be hard to have constant coverage in an open land with whatever mobs hanging around and chests there. You guys keep talking RP.... putting fat loot in a zone will not promote RP, but it may get people to enter the zone more.

Which is why having the zone open when a DM wants to monitor it might get for some good gameplay... heck you can even have restricted levels (DM will have to enforce of course) competing in the different game mode types.

And ANYTHING can be having a RP reason. Remember, orcs are getting pvp'd with something as simple as "You are Orc, leave or die" 10 seconds later the orc dies. And that is allowed. That isn't what I would consider RP, so we do not have to have some elaborate reason to have a pure pvp autoconsent zone. A story can be weaved to support it.

The question is.... is the DM team willing to support this area?
If the text is this color, I am on duty, everything else is just my humble opinion.

How long before this just becomes novelty, and we have another underutilized area as a result that sticks out like a sore thumb in comparison of the rest of the module?

I think a few zones could work.

Put a iron or what ever mine in a map and the guild or random group of players that controls it should get some gold from the matirials that get won there.

Or a lumber mil in a forest , You could get some gold from the logs you win there or of your you are a elf you go to protect your forest from this logging crew.

Have a map with a bridge and have the people in controll of the bridge be able to ask for toll or beat would be bandits back into there cave.

So mutch you can do with point control and it doesnt even need to be the same map BG has so many cool maps that could get a simple mine lumber mill or what ever added hell there are even a few cool bridges to controll...

So mutch cool conflict rp that could happen cous of it and even fresh and unlikly bonds can be forged IC.

Or let a group hold a portal to where ever or let others try and destroy it...

For all of you that say it wil just be ooc pvp i would like to invite you all and think out side of the box.

Use maps that we have already we could swap them out now and then or have multiple at the same time.

No thank you.

For all the reasons stated in the past when this suggestion has come up.

There are other servers and even games for this type of gameplay.

Its not like you would need to join in on things like this its all up to you and what the rp of your toon is about.
Though im sure many of us can see the rp flow in something like this.

Even if server is RP, that does not mean that pvp is not related to rp. I would say that people playing evil character, with -50 in their roleplay as evil characters are less rp than a good pvp.

I was bringing this idea some time ago and I am on big YES

@Lobo, if the message I have sent, regarding pvp areas would bring any positive feedback from DM team ,please post it here as this is clearly related, but slightly different.

As to people choosing op builds instead of different ones because of this change...

Please dont make me laugh, 80% of server population is going for such builds. There are fun chars sure...

first of all. not everyone here plays the game for the same reasons. RP is a part of nearly everyone here's fun, but some place it below combat PvE gameplay and even PvP. there may be some that play to get fake gold and the thrill of obtaining digital objects. lots of reasons.

placing a full PvP area like holding an enterance to a gold mine sounds like a fun idea. the holder gets a boost of gold for every hour they hold it. make it temporary and with an undisclosed expiration date.

sounds like it could be a fun little add in and if players LOVE it then see about making something more frequent.

Flasmix wrote:The problem I foresee with something like this is there is no way to make it something involving RP. It's really just an OOC arena where you can mess around and PvP. It's not something I'm looking for on an RP server.
Agreed.

I think it would encourage even more focus on mechanics over RP than we already have, which to me is unfortunate.

Incentivizing this sort of building/gameplay by giving it rewards like material resources, political clout, etc. would exacerbate the problem further.

This is a role-playing server. It has always been so.

I think the whole server should be open PvP outside of cities. So i approve this idea.

I would suggest maybe level restrictions for certain zones.. so low level bandits between BG bridge and FAI aren't suddenly smite by the hand of God level 30 paladin.

We already have an issue with Saturday Morning Cartoon Villains and Heroes never being able to die/always coming back.

I can guarantee you that forcing PvP on others for getting from one area to another will both make players leave and bring out the abusers and trolls.

Yes please... brings back fond memories of my time on Runescape. Too many people are obsessed with rp, an area where one can can take a break would be nice.

I think it will only further encourage power-building for PvP, and unfortunately adds nothing to the roleplay aspect of the server. In agreement with Flasmix, the less cases of "I killed you yesterday", the better.
