Wild Mage Prestige Class/Class
Now, a while ago, I noticed that Rasael had developed a replacement spellbook system for the purposes of this persistent world, and since then I have wondered, have you guys ever thought of adapting the longstanding Wild Mage mod into the game? It would fit quite well given the theme and area of the server, and it would add a whole new dimension for those who want to be a dedicated generalist wizard.

It has popped up in the past, the DMs of old said no, because we have not yet had the Time of Troubles.

That seems a bit odd from a lore perspective considering there are wild magic zones, after all, wild magic zones all seem to date from the Time of Troubles.Comments Only wrote:It has popped up in the past, the DMs of old said no, because we have not yet had the Time of Troubles.

Re: Wild Mage Prestige Class/Class
To be fair there are a lot more concerns at any given time than whether or not the class is acceptable by lore standards anyway. Any class addition/suggestion will probably not be taken very seriously unless the class has already been theorycrafted and developed or one of our developers happens to see the idea and decides it suits their fancy to work on it.
Even if we wanted to bring the idea of a Wild Mage to the table, we really don't have a working wild magic system or even a basic idea of "what the PRC should be." These things of course could happen, but if the DMs are not hot on the idea in the first place then this will naturally decrease developer interest and the idea for the class would be shelved in favor of ones that make everyone involved in the project happy.
I wouldn't let a past DM ruling/answer to the idea of Wild Mage or even the server's present situation weigh in on whether or not the topic is worthy of discussion. It's always interesting to see what ideas people have and how different elements of lore could be incorporated into the server mechanically even if none of those ideas actually end up bearing fruit.

This server is set pre-time of troubles. We have deities such as Myrkul, Bane, and Bhaal, because Cyric has not claimed their portfolios yet.zoroastor wrote:That seems a bit odd from a lore perspective considering there are wild magic zones, after all, wild magic zones all seem to date from the Time of Troubles.Comments Only wrote:It has popped up in the past, the DMs of old said no, because we have not yet had the Time of Troubles.
But honestly, I have nothing against Wild Mage, or what not... You could just add some in game fluff about the PRC being all about trying to discover new magical effects by making variations to the established norm... Which could result in interesting effects from the spell exploding into your own face to having heightened effects or doing something different altogether. It could be a 3 level PRC with 'Wild Magic' casting mode, or it could be a 10 level PRC with five feats to increase the probability of a specific random effect.

Well there was a variant wild mage floating around as an edited PRC for many years on the vault, it was inspired by the Tome of Battle from 2nd Edition. That said it might be regarded as a little too strong a class, but hey Nehal's Reckless Dweomer is like the single most fun spell to have ever existed in DnD
