Exciting News for UD players

Unread post by DM Lobo »

I've been working closely with the CCs and with DM Flasmix (running the UD metaplot) to come up with a weekly session for the UD players which will tie in with the metaplot. Me and Flasmix will be taking it in turns to host these events which should start within the next few weeks.

Based on the feedback you guys left me in the threads I started a while back the events will be as follows:

- Focus on politics with an underlining story wrtitten in
- Players will be given more responsibily in events
- A ranking system will be in place for players to aspire to
- Some events will be UD / Surface cross overs
- Non linear story shaped by the players with real in game effects

For good drow players
- You will now have a chance to take part in the plot and effect the story in a meaningful way, with different goals to strive for (or your own) //Thanks to DM Hera for the suggestion

When will it start?
- In roughly two weeks on a Saturday, the events will then be hosted weekly on Saturdays; me and Flasmix are still working out a time.

What level do I need to be?
There will be no level requirement; you may roll up a fresh level one, or pull in an old level 30 if you wish.

By the sounds of it, it seems that these types of events will be very large ones? AKA mass events?

I guess it depends who shows up, Glowfire -- as the UD community is small I do not think we will have any more than 15 at a time; however I will only be able to take up 7 (max) Flasmix will probably take on more (if they show) but I do want to reassure you we will be giving each player a chance to get involved.

if they are similar to the ones last year, then it would not be a mass event in the same light as the last candlekeep event from last week. there were usually 10-15 players doing UD events last year. which i felt was a good number.

I want to do a sign up involving mostly PC's who are actually active in the UD. The large events where people just log on for one day for the event tend to be crashtacular and detrimental when it comes to RP.

As such, if you want to be able to take part in this event chain... Please have an active UD character. As Lobo said, we'll be doing multi-part events.

Yes! The two events I have had in the six or so years of Vithsiris' existence, was largely consumed by surfacer primary alts, and turned into a mass meatgrind PvE.

This was never a problem with the Ooze events, and I always encourage people who are new to the UD to give it a try even at level 1 -- though I would like to see some commitment if that is what people wish to do.

IMO that's a huge number, and would be a real turn off on this plot to me.

Can I ask what is meant by this?

And I suppose as a general question, what support is there going to be for players not wanting to be involved in this event line with their PCs?

That's very encouraging. I couldn't really see the point of an event line that's pretty much composed of PCs that log in for the event, then log out and leave a desert in the UD afterwards. As you say its actually harmful of real UD play between DM events then, as the UD PCs get drowned out by event only alts, and their RP becomes irrelevant compared to the happenings during the DM event

I have an update guys (and thank you for sharing your concerns) The first offical session will start on the 22nd April then every Saturday after that at roughly 18:00 GMT; though if this time is problematic for players we can have that ajusted.

We have decided to scrap the ranking system and instead opt to have a team leader instead who will take charge in several of the events; I would like to have each member have a part on the team. The only down side to these plots is they do not cater to characters who have no intrest in the city -- though I will try and cater to 'good drow' in a similar plot depending on how well these events go. The issue Flam brought up about players logging alts is a concern I share as well -- and something we will address; though I do want to give players who do have a general intrest in UD a fair chance to get involved.

As I briefly touched up on in my other thread; I would like to have perma strikes and failures -- with consequences (though players do not have to opt for perma strikes if they do not wish to) players that do however will be given custom rewards and better exp / gold bonuses after each event (custom rewards have to be approved with the HDM team first and may include rings, cloaks, boots etc...) This is something I'll be talking with Fam about however as we both host in different ways.

//A prompt reminder that the first UD event will be on the 22nd (Saturday) -- I am only allowed to take the first 7 players, so please bare that in mind on the day as others will be turned away.
