Character Progression Goals for Benchmarking

Unread post by blacksoft »

Hello everyone!!

I just started on this server and have already planned out my first toon.

However, I am a bit curious what the benchmark needs are at level's 10, 20, and 30 for these base items:

Saves, armor class, AB, and skills, (I guess damage per hit as well)

What would be considered "acceptable", "good", "exemplary" at these levels for these items?

Cheers!

This is difficult to answer as some classes have certain strengths and weaknesses. In a very general sense I would try to get to ~30+ AC by 10, ~36+ by 15 and ~40+ in epics as entry level. The more you get over 40 the better off you will be.

Attack Bonus is very dependent upon if you have HiPS/Feint or not... Even then, with Feint it depends how stocked you are planning to be on bluff gear (and how much gold you have to purchase it). In general for a standard melee build w/out HiPS you want a minimum of 42 AB and maybe ~50 for an Archer w/ manyshot. The more the better... With HiPS you can usually get away with about ~34, but might want to get some potions of heroism/bless/aid for times when you need.

Skills are very much RP and build dependent. Obviously Tumble/Spellcraft/Bluff/Taunt/Hide/Move Silently/Listen/Spot/and I may be forgetting some others have mechanical aspects and should be maxed (or stopped at 30 for tumble/spellcraft) if you want maximum benefit.

Saves, the more the better... I would say mid 20's is the minimum if you want decent defense against save or X spells. Again, this is build dependent and unless you have steadfast a 1 still fails.

just to add to chad's post. i would say that if you are running a high HP build you can have a low reflex save and not be in too much trouble. especially so if you have evasion of course.

Evasion mostly only helps high reflex saves builds. Improved Evasion helps low reflex saves. Evasion makes it so you take no damage on a successful save where Improved Evasion makes half damage on failed saves. Therefore if you have a build with ~10 Reflex Saves it's unlikely you will have a successful save against anything that matters (because DC is probably higher than 30), but with Improved Evasion you only take half damage, whereas Evasion you still take full damage.
