So... Hospitaler... The class, It can be evil.
But, Explain to me how this class could work for an evil character.
When I think of the class, I (duo to the name) think of hospitals. Which tend to try and "heal" people. Granted this may be my own misconception of hospitals!
At the same time, I've met a drow who had the class... And drow... don't tend to heal a lot of folks out of the kindness of their hearts.
So someone, explain how this class works behind other mindset and alignments please?

Re: Hospitaler... Evil?
Sure just think of a medic who heals the evil legion and does harmful magic during the battle to the good guys.
Pretty sure this class has some knights templar theme going and you could also imagine them being super rich and corrupt after their order grows to the point of a political force or something. Lawful evil healers and protectors.
Drow healing is some kinda SNOWFLAKE?!

Re: Hospitaler... Evil?
I often think of the Good/Evil axis in regard to the context from which the Character would exist. For example, acts of Evil are easy to point out FROM a society and perspective that is quote on quote Good. In Drow Society, for example, are Evil acts really Evil, or just...status quo? Ya know what I mean?
This is the D&D definition of Hospitaler:
And who better than a Hospitaler to take that minor role in the big picture?!?
This is the D&D definition of Hospitaler:
So even within an Evil Society, the non-Chaotic aspect of the PrC could function directly under sworn to poverty and sworn to obedience. Maybe it is the word "care" that seems more Goodly than Evil-y, but a truly evil force can easily "care" for a prisoner just in order to use that prisoner for a grand staged execution for maximum effect.Hospitalers are a fighting force of necessity, sworn to poverty, obedience, and the defense of those in their care.

Drows heal the wounded aswell - if it furthers their own goals. Often they enforce something in return.
Or think of an torturer (hospitaler) that inflicts pain upon his victim and then heals it to continue the process again and again. Its a common practice in the abyss.

I just watched an episode of star trek voyager (thank you netflix) where The Doctor, in this episode, had his ethical sub routines switched off and so decided to disect 7 of 9 simply to gather some info. A total evil hospitaler.

Re: Hospitaler... Evil?
my hospital charges way more then a procedure costs. I suppose that can be very evil if they know the person will die without it and cannot afford such a thing.Moltrazahn wrote:So... Hospitaler... The class, It can be evil.

Re: Hospitaler... Evil?
Well, to my drowess former hospitaler the inspiration were in the description of the class.
With a twist, of course.
A quick and dirty explanation if you will.
Good side says:
"Hospitalers are a fighting force of necessity, sworn to poverty, obedience, and the defense of those in their care. It is the duty of knights hospitaler to protect people traveling on religious pilgrimages. Over the years, this single duty has expanded to include the construction and administration of hospitals and refugee facilities."
Better side might say:
Hospitaler are a fighting force of necessity, sworn to random malice, obedience, and the defense of the faith. It is the duty of the knights hospitaler to suspect, examine and as willfully deemed necessary apprehend and interrogate people traveling on religious pilgrimages. Healing the clergy and the more divine creatures of the temples as deemed necessary is a sacred duty.
Over the years, this single duty has expanded to include the construction and administration of temples and other facilities devoted to our beloved darkness most high.
Yes, they have healing capabilities, but who and why?
Some Blackguard levels to compound the concept, et voila!
