The Bards' Perfectness (gloves) - buggy?

Unread post by Miyuki »

I bought these gloves a two days ago from Shea. I actuallyy forund them very useful for a caster.

The Bards' Perfectness (gloves)
AC-Bonus (Armour) +3
Perform +3
Spell Immunity: Silence

A bit later i tried them in different areas where monsters casted silence. I was surprised in the firelds of dead, when i still got silenced by a fallen priest (undead).

Could it be, this item is buggy or why didn't it work?

Spell immunity doesn't work with AoE spells when the spell is cast as an AoE and not directly on you.. and the mobs always cast AoE.

Is there any chance to fix it anywhere in a future? Or all hope is lost and there is a problem that makes it too difficult?

Well it's not a bug to begin with so there's nothing to fix.

Ok....That is really sad, but it still can be attractive for RP or PvP situations. I hope that players wouldn't abuse that ooc at least.^^

Still it should work if the silence is cast on a target, right?

Do not take me for a problem maker but I do not understand and would like to question it further.
Where exactly in PnP rules it states that magical items protecting from certain spells do not work if caster targets ground near enemy with his AOE spell?

To me it seems like a game bug.

The mobs don't always cast AoE, Valefort. The tasloi in Cloakwood used to cast silence directly at my spellcasting characters, forcing a will save to resist. Sometimes they'll cast at you directly (in which case the Immunity will actually kick in properly), but most of the time they'll cast the AoE, in which case you just move away if possible.

Most players will cast it at the ground under your feet in a PvP situation, Seraphine. Sorry! Aeili used to cast Bigby 7 grapple first. Then there is no escape...

And I agree with the above comment: if an item gives immunity to X spell and you're not actually immune to it in all circumstances, that's a bug. Unfortunately in this case I believe it's tied to AoE spells and how they completely ignore spell resistance checks, and thus also spell immunity checks because Obsidian somehow linked them both together (a problem that was not the case in NWN1).

Mobs are just AI but players using this in a conscious way - sound like exploit users to me.
Of course most of the time it will be something they are not aware (I hope).

Thanks for the explanation. :)

Depends on the character of that is abuse, i would say.

In Aelis case for example I think it is ok in RP as she was an old character and Mystran etc.. She can have the knowledge for it.

But if any spellcasting lowlevel character comes along who does not know your equipment in RP or if everyone suddenly does so without a proper RP background, that is more of an abuse to me.

Being nitpicky as well is it said in the rules that if you're immune to a spell you're immune to the effects of the spell if it's cast as an AoE ? :P It's a pretty small matter one way or the other anyway.

Oh, i wasn't the one who started to discuss about the rules.

I just tried to understand if the item works correctly or if it's buggy and how i can still use it in a way it makes sense.

I'm sorry but i couldn't know that such a discussion breaks out just because of a simple question. I even tried to sooth the one who discusses here. But if that was wrong i'm sorry. I will gladly let you guys discuss now. :P ;)

P. S. Thanks for the explanations and quick answers. :)

Sorry to hijack topic like this but it really seems like a bug looking at the matter with a simple logic.

Sure you can "munchkin" the rules but then it starts to make less and less sense. First logical impression says it is a bug that should be fixed. I could understand if devs answer to my question would be that it is too hard and will never be fixed, but I cannot understand excuses based on interpreting rules in non logical way and claiming that this is not a bug.

So let me repeat a question - is it something that can be fixed in a future or would it be too hard and time consuming?

It is not something we look into fixing. You used the word "seems" many time and that should explain it. What seems to you as a bug, does not seem as one for others. The AoE and immunity items, is a known issue. Not in the past, nor now is a desire to change it.

That is why I asked for an explanation how and based on what arguments this is not a bug. I'm pretty sure if survey would be done 80-90% of players would see it as a bug, and potential exploit in PvP.

Ok so now you're choosing to word it differently as an "issue" to avoid using "bug".

Again - I'd understand if devs see it as not time worthy, too time consuming, or simply admitted they do not know how to fix it but claiming it works as should is simply strange.

It's probably possible to change it if you really want to know but as far as I'm concerned it works properly.
