Rockrun: Work to Be Done

*Those that frequent Rockrun may notice Brokk spending a lot of time there, mining for ore and unrefined gems.*

The Duergar's toil was immense, but he was well-accustomed to it. Sweat poured down his brow as he swung his pick unceasingly, seemingly tireless.* He had stripped down to his breeches, though he kept his iron boots and gauntlets* on. The muscles in his arms, like thick, steel cables stretched and moved under his skin, veins bulging under the strain of his black heart, and the Little Titan's dark skin was soon covered in a layer of mining dust. Hours passed, and he watched shifts of miners come and go. He was never for small talk, but he had made a point to take anything he found of value to the foreman on duty, and sat with the Svirfneblin during their breaks, puffing on his odious pipe. One or two of the younger gnomes tried to take him up on the offer of a pull from the pipe -- after a time it became a thing they dared each other into. But, save perhaps one, the noxious, black smoke sent each of them into coughing fits, which he bore with a wry smirk.

After each break, he would sneak a sip from a potion***, and continue toiling well into the next shift. Another set of miners came and went, and after a time, he was alone in the mines. He preferred to work alone; it allowed him more time for swinging, and less time for forced, idle chatter.

The hours bled into Cycles like a wounded Rothe, but at the end of two cycles of work, he took his findings to the table, separated them by use and worth, and delivered them to their respective owners of his own accord, before finally taking a rest.
