Not sure.
It used to just leave the spell,,, then when you try casting it, it says the spell escapes you or something.
Now with that said... I cannot cast Mark Rune any longer on any of my Divination prohibited wizards, but not only that, the spell was pulled from their spell list.

Re: a few wizard ?'s
Suggested strategy for Wizard leveling... Not what the thread is about, but if it is painful these may help.
- buff up, then cast extended polymorph self - Troll and now you're a gish. Might be boring, but it is effective.
- Since you are level 14 you can go with Energy Immunity Acid and Fire and then load up on Walls of Fire and Acid Clouds. Buff up defensively and run around collecting as many mobs as possible to attack you and then drop an acid cloud and wall of fire in their midst... Laugh hysterically as your clothing is burned/melts away along with your enemies while acid harmlessly drips from your skin and you are wreathed in flames! If you are good enough at positioning the spells you can do this without the energy immunity, but it will take practice to get it right. Another option you can go with is Shadow Shield and Cloudkill.
- Summon, buff, turn invisible, let your buff kill things for you. Slow, but mostly effective and almost completely safe from fugue trips.
In my opinion the middle option is the fastest method of gaining XP, but you have to be in an area with melee mobs that will give chase and you have to be patient enough to gather lots of mobs before dropping the clouds/walls. Once you hit 15 and get Incendiary Cloud you have some more cloud spells as well. However, in all honesty the fastest way is to find a buddy, buff him/her up (Gr. Heroism is not a spell I would be willing to lose) and then let him/her do most of the killing. Your buffs will make your mate kill faster so it is a win/win for both of you.

Re: a few wizard ?'s
do not typically summon, but play with another fighter type. tried a few summons just for RP flavoring and being scary. that one would certainly like GH but pots are available for that now. **shrugs**
but then again....
like you said hawke.. its hard to know. could just drop evocation and try my best with what i got. would lose spells that i probably wouldnt use later when the game gets harder.

Casting AAA will first remove the former AAA effect if there was one @ aaron.

Re: a few wizard ?'s
Heya Aaron,
my wizard has 4 levels of EK. I buff him up and summon a shadow mastiff buff that up as well and go kill stuff. If you can even extend the lesser planar binding the better.
Due to the fact that my wizard can fight himself I decided that evocation was not a must have for me.
The spells of the forbidden school stay but if you cast cast them out tells you that the weave fails you.
The planar binding also offers an efreet that could be buffed with GMW and keen which might make that very interesting.

my mage cannot melee too well. i leave that up to the fighter that is with him. he doesnt really summon stuff either. just leaves the fighting to the fighter and is there to take out big foes or big numbers when asked.

Yeah, basically you can buff the fighter with IMA, GH, Spiderskin, stoneskin, and GMW... you can burn a bull's or a cat's on him, but chances are, he has +2 enhancement for each and won't notice much difference.
Then while fighting drop a couple of hastes.. and you are his new best friend.
But as the topic started... generally your level 6 spells are the most noticeable spells in your repertoire in my opinion. I would literally murder someone with a twinkie if I could get another 3 or 4 spell slots for level 6. Flesh to stone, bigby, firebrand, missiles... just some great spells that affect enemies. Plus I believe that is where your elemental immunity spells are located as well.

You can of course go generalist... You're only giving up one spell per level per rest... There is no impact to DC's or anything.

seems very undesirable because the 7,8,9 bonus spells will be huge.chad878262 wrote:You can of course go generalist... You're only giving up one spell per level per rest... There is no impact to DC's or anything.
still thinking of dropping evocation. i can live without the missles i think. guess ill find out.

Re: a few wizard ?'s
While I would love to have an extra spell of every level, having the option of any school of magic outweighs it for me.
When I was levelling my character (I don't really focus that way anymore) I always had a warrior/bodyguard type with me and played how you mentioned. Help buff, help in emergencies. I had/have plenty of spells for that between rests.
It's always a give or take, no matter what you decide you'll find a way to make it work well.

I only considered dropping evocation because I thought that my character would deal enough damage in melee, although that might drop off with me taking only a few EK levels...

that goes a long way to help me decide. a wizard player that played a similar role. like it. especially since i am learning mage. this keeps the whole book open for my learning experience.Planehopper wrote:While I would love to have an extra spell of every level, having the option of any school of magic outweighs it for me.
