Reineke Villame

Unread post by Sapper Woody »

First Name: Reineke (pronounced Rine-icky)
Last Name: Villame (Formerly Ingenium)

Appearance:
Race: Human
Age: 34, though he is one year older than his actual age, due to time traveling
Height 6'1" (185.5cm)
Weight: 225lbs (102kg)
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Auburn
Facial Hair Style: Full, well groomed beard

Personality Profile:
General Health: Well
Deity: Mystra
Initial Alignment: True Neutral
Profession: Archmage of the Sword Coast Guild of the Arcane
Base Class & Proposed Development: Wizard-based
Habits/Hobbies: Reineke enjoys discussions concerning the arcane, and deals with the recruitment of the guild.
Languages: Multiple, undisclosed
Weapon of Choice: Reineke currently uses a greatsword in nearly every situation, and uses the arcane to ward himself.

Background: Reineke does not remember his parents, and has no siblings that he knows of. He does not know where his name "Reineke" came from. He's just been called that his whole life. His earliest memories are of living near the dock ward of Waterdeep, in an alley. As a child, he organized a group of orphans into a "guild" of sorts. They fancied themselves a thieves' guild, but in reality were mostly just scrounging off of scraps for survival. Because of his ability to think and solve problems, the other orphans began referring to him as "Reineke the Genius".

When Reineke was a young teenager, he saw a traveling magician performing cantrips for money. Reineke studied the man's motions and his incantations, and tried as best he could to emulate them. After weeks of hard work, Reineke was able to cast "light". He then attempted to use this to gain some coin to eat. He was met with very mild success. Someone who often asked Reineke to perform was a man by the name of Altharius.

When Altharius asked Reineke his name, Reineke replied "Reineke the Genius". Altharius then began calling Reineke "Reineke Ingenium", explaining that "Ingenium" meant "Genius" in a certain language.

Eventually, Altharius asked Reineke if he would like some more training in wizardry. Reineke immediately accepted, and moved to the north ward where he lived with Altharius as his apprentice. Altharius was a house wizard, though Reineke never found out the name of the family whom Altharius served. Reineke stayed in the wizard's quarters, even eating his meals there. Reineke didn't mind however, as the wizard was kind and let Reineke read any book in the wizard's library; he also taught Reineke basic magic.

One day, Reineke wanted to impress his master, so he spent hours one day while his master was out drawing a summoning circle in order to summon an imp. Something went wrong with the summoning, however. Instead of an imp, a balor appeared. Altharius arrived just in time to banish the balor, but not before being mortally wounded. He died in Reineke's arms.

Reineke, not having access to divine prayers, attempted to raise his master using the only resource available to him. The Arcane. He poured all the arcane energy he could into a resurrection attempt. His master then stood up, but Reineke could see that what was before him was not his master. It was an unthinking zombie.

Reineke was heartbroken. He dismissed the zombie, and then set about searching through every book that Altharius had on hand in an attempt to figure out how to bring his master back. He discovered that once a necromancer became powerful enough, he could raise undead that were not unthinking beings, but were able to maintain thought on their own. Vampires. He made it his goal to become powerful enough to raise his master as a vampire so that he could give his master the choice to live again.

He traveled to Candlekeep with this goal in mind. He hid his necromantic powers from most people once he was accepted into Candlekeep as an Acolyte, his focus on gaining access to the library so that he could gain more power.

Something happened that Reineke did not expect, though. He ended up falling in love with Candlekeep. He also had many long talks with Candlekeep's Gatewarden, Isabella Villame, in which he began to see the folly of his goal. In the end, Reineke went to a temple to be cleansed of his necromantic powers. He understood that his master had already made his choice when he decided to die saving Reineke's life.

Reineke became the Archivist of Candlekeep. He served as the Guide's right hand. He had no aspirations of becoming the Guide, rather enjoying the position that he held. He entered into a Courtship with Isabella Villame, and the two took things slowly.

After attempting and failing to remove Guide Keenan from her position for what Reineke viewed as breaking her vows, Reineke resigned from his position at Candlekeep and left the coast for a short time, returning to his home city of Waterdeep. Reineke returned to the area and along with Isabella and Sirion Te'dwa, founded the Sword Coast Guild of the Arcane.

Reineke married Isabella, and since her last name was the name of her family, he took her name and became "Reineke Villame"

Goals: Reineke hopes to build the mage guild and to bring in new students to teach the arcane.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
In his pack he does carry a squid carved from wood that was given to him by Teris Ynarno.

He also always carries a book so that he can write, as well as some parchment that he can make notes on if he needs to.

Acquaintances

Unread post by Sapper Woody »

Acquaintances of Reineke Ingenium
//This list is no where near complete. I am adding people as I think of them. If your character is missing, and you think they should be added, feel free to PM me.
A
Adallan Ragnon
Hidden: show
Reineke and Adallan have always gotten along. They have worked together on many projects within Candlekeep. He appreciates Adallan's humor, even though Reineke is not a fan of puns. When Reineke first became a Seeker, he couldn't quite find the color "mauve", often getting the shade wrong to appear pink. This led to Adallan calling Reineke "Seeker Pink", and leading a research alongside Celius Kirzal into whether people thought Reineke's robes looked pink or purple. This research helped in no small way to get the uniform color changed back to blue.

Today, Reineke and Adallan still remain friends. Although Reineke is hesitant to follow Adallan on adventures, because more often than not one of them ends up waking up in a temple.
Alcarin Silversong
Hidden: show
Reineke had seen Alcarin around a few times, didn't really know her. After Rein became friends with Rania and began to hang around the Halls of Inner Light, he got to know Alcarin more. He now considers her a good friend. She was one of the people who attended his pre-wedding party.
Amenthes Serb
Hidden: show
Reineke has always gotten along with Amenthes. He began disliking the Thayan when Amenthes stayed as a guest in Candlekeep, and the issues with the Thayan Enclave were going on. After that was all settled, Rein remained somewhat neutral towards Amenthes, though he does not dislike the man.
Alexander Marshall
Hidden: show
Reineke did not know much of Alexander until he had a talk with the man concerning Alexandra Keenan when she became romantically entangled with Cosimo Delucca. During this talk, Alexander gifted to Reineke a Greatsword, which Reineke named "Bibliothecarii", which means "The Librarian". Alexander and Reineke have adventured alongside each other several times since then, and have become good friends.
Alexandra Keenan
Hidden: show
When Reineke came to Candlekeep and initially met with Alexandra, he was too focused on his own goals to really make an opinion of her. As he became less goal focused, and more Candlekeep focused, he eventually turned towards her as the object of his affection. He was turned away, and sat by while Alexandra sat in the arms of Eldarian Al'maire. He eventually gave up that chase, focusing on Candlekeep.

He served as Alexandra's right hand at Candlekeep. He wished to be more of a friend to her, but felt like there was a wall there due to her fear that Reineke was after her position of Guide. He tried to allay these fears, but found that his romantic involvement with the Gatewarden made this difficult.

After being told by Alexandra to not speak to her because Reineke protested her relationship to Cosimo Delucca, Reineke took a step back and examined all the times he had defended her to those outside Candlekeep. He came to the conclusion that during her time spent with Amenthes Serb, Alexandra had indeed broken her vows to Candlekeep.

Reineke attempted to remove her from her position as Guide, and failed. Once he resigned his position at Candlekeep, he barely spoke to her again, outside of the occasional greeting. Reineke does not hate her, and wishes there were some way of repairing his friendship with her, though he doesn't hold out hope that it is possible.

Now that she is with her fifth choice of a mate (for she has had several before her current lover), Reineke simply leaves her alone. He hopes one day he can return to Candlekeep, but does not believe he can under her leadership.
Althea Hartell
Hidden: show
Reineke became acquainted with Althea through Alexander Marshall. He does not know very much about her, but he enjoys adventuring with her, and considers her a friend.
B
Bran
Hidden: show
Reineke does not have much opinion on Bran, though he respects the man. Recently, though Reineke hasn't spoken to Bran since, there was an incident that makes Reineke think that he likely has fallen into disfavor with the man.
C
Celestia
Hidden: show
Joining Jane and Cosimo on the short list of people that Reineke doesn't like, Reineke finds Celestia to be arrogant and idiotic. One of her worst flaws in Reineke's mind, however, is the fact that she seems to gravitate towards Isabella whenever Reineke and Isabella are trying to find some alone time.
Cosimo Delucca
Hidden: show
Reineke's first impression of Cosimo was that he was an idiot, and only wished to stir up trouble. That hasn't changed much. But now that Cosimo has begun an attempt to woo the Guide, Reineke likes him even less. Cosimo has the distinction of being one of three people on the Coast that Reineke genuinely hates.

After successfully wooing Alexandra Keenan, calling Reineke a liar, and threatening Candlekeep, Reineke's distaste for Cosimo has only grown stronger. Reineke is in shock that Alexandra would consider staying in a relationship with the man who has threatened Candlekeep even since the two have been romantically involved.
D
Derik Ranloss
Hidden: show
Reineke does not know much of Derik, but mostly knows him through a mutual acquaintance, Vala Dunn. He has been with the man on a couple of adventures, however, and appreciates the man's fighting ability as well as his honor.

(Added 20171222) Derik has become a good friend of Reineke's, and attended Reineke's wedding where he walked Isabella down the aisle. Derik is a shipmate of Reineke's, and the two occasionally go on adventure together.
Dian Evon
Hidden: show
Reineke enjoys the time he spends with Diane. He sometimes gets annoyed with her incessant optimism, but he tries to not let it show, preferring that to pessimism. Reineke and she very rarely butt heads, but Reineke feels that the main reason is likely because he can never get a word in when she is around.

Still, he enjoys her company, and respects her prowess with a bow.
F
Freya Evans
Hidden: show
Reineke doesn't know Freya very well, but likes what he knows. She was very helpful alongside Vala Dunn in picking out an outfit for Reineke. While he hasn't spoken to her much, she has been at several events that Reineke has attended, and he enjoys hearing her music.
G
Gunthar
Hidden: show
Upon originally meeting Gunthar, Reineke did not like him at all. He didn't have any real reason to not like him; he just didn't. Later on however, Reineke got the chance to work with Gunthar, and his opinion has changed. He would not call Gunthar a "friend", but he does not dislike the man.

Reineke and Gunthar have become friends, mostly because that Reineke knows that Isabella trusts Gunthar. So Reineke has taken the opportunity to befriend the man, and have drinks with him. Reineke still doesn't know much about Gunthar, except that Gunthar does not like to play Tonk.
I
Iris Sorin
Hidden: show
Reineke did not know much of the bardess, until one day he mentioned to her that he was thinking of approaching Isabella Villame in the hopes of forming a courtship. She helped him practice for nearly an entire afternoon in how to approach her. Reineke doesn't get to see the bardess much, but enjoys listening to her music whenever he gets the chance. Anytime he gets the opportunity, he asks her to perform "Whiskey in the Jar".
Isabella Villame
Hidden: show
Reineke has always admired Isabella's personality and leadership. She helped him make his decisions regarding his path of necromancy, and how he was heading in the wrong direction. Eventually, Reineke began seeing the possibility of a romantic relationship with Isabella, but had no clue how to approach her. Finally, with the help of Iris Sorin, Reineke approached Isabella in the matter.

They are currently in a romantic relationship, though they keep it rather private. They don't make their plans for the future public, rather just letting people think what they think.

(Added 20171222) Rein and Isabella did not quite see their duty to Candlekeep in quite the same light when Rein left, and this caused some tension between them. They eventually worked things out, and were married.
Israe'anna
Hidden: show
In Reineke's first meeting with the drow, she warned him and others of the approach of some Malarite Orcs. Reineke does not fully understand Israe'anna, and keeps a respectful distance, but does not fear her. He knows that she wishes to be seen by people as not being a threat, and he is willing to give her the chance to prove herself.

Reineke and Israe'anna have met for discussions concerning her story. Reineke wishes to meet with her some more to get the rest of the story, as well as to learn more about drow customs and society.
J
Jane Price
Hidden: show
Simply put, Reineke does not like Jane. At all. After verbally sparring her with Reineke winning handily, she has walked away thinking she won. This kind of stupidity Rein cannot stand. To top it off, Reineke sees Jane as someone who wants to appear to be the savior of people, without actually putting in the work to do so.
K
Kahanak Habdilof
Hidden: show
Reineke does not hate the former Khazark, but rather pities the man. At one point, Reineke thought that Kahanak may have put a bounty on his head for his involvement with Isabella Villame. But the next time the two spoke, Kahanak congratulated him and told him to take care of her.

Reineke is still wary of Kahanak, because he knows of Kahanak's hatred of Candlekeep. Still, Reineke does not think that Kahanak has the capability anymore to cause any real harm.
L
Lafali'Atria Dacino
Hidden: show
Reineke is not sure of what to make of the one time human male now turned elven female. He has only conversed with her one time in depth. He does not dislike her, but has no real attachment to her, either.
Luke Darius
Hidden: show
Reineke knew of Luke for a while, but did not really know him. He still doesn't, but has received a death threat from Luke, which Rein is convinced was made because of a misconception. He is hoping that Luke and he can sit down and work things out.
M
Marneiros Duskwalker
Hidden: show
Reineke has never been at odds with the elf that he knows of. He has worked with him on a few adventures, though they have not had any real one-on-one interaction. Marneiros' biggest downfall in Reineke's eyes however, is the fact that he is courting Jane Price. In Reineke's mind, there's no way a sane person would do so.
Mauve
Hidden: show
Rieneke never had anything against the color until he became a Seeker of Candlekeep, and that color became his new uniform color. Try as he might, he could never quite figure out what mauve was. He either ended up in something that looked pink or something that looked purple. Eventually, the uniform color was changed to blue, to Reineke's relief. To this day, people in Candlekeep speak in jests of "Reineke's Quest for Mauve".
Michael Dunn
Hidden: show
Reieneke considers Michael Dunn to be a friend, though the two rarely interact beyond asking each other for information, or warning each other of dangers. Reineke respects Michael's fighting prowess and his loyalty.
N
Nixidea
Hidden: show
Reineke generally gets along with Nixidea, though he had to be the one to initially ban her from Candlekeep for her interference with a mission which ended up costing the lives of some of the sailors of Candlekeep. He can understand the reasoning behind her actions, but attempted to get her to see that there would have been other, less costly ways to go about it.
R
Rania Arowaven
Hidden: show
When Rania first arrived in the region, Reineke befriended her and helped her find her way around. She eventually came to Candlekeep, and Reineke is the one who did her interview to become an acolyte. Reineke has not spoken to her since she resigned her position as acolyte, and does not know if they are still friends or not.

Reineke has had the chance to spend more time with Rania, and has come to enjoy being around her. He would not consider her a close friend, but a friend nonetheless.

(Added 20171222) Reineke and Rania have become good friends, and Rania is the one who performed Reineke and Isabella's wedding. Reineke enjoys spending time at the Halls of Light talking with Rania.
S
Selengil Harkonis
Hidden: show
Reineke was invited to visit Darkhold by Selengil when Reineke first came to the area. He looked at Selengil as a possible mentor for the power that Reineke hoped to gain. Eventually, those thoughts lessened as Reineke forsook his original ambitions in favor of his love for Candlekeep.

Reineke respects the Lord of Darkhold, as he realizes his intellectual power. Reineke does not consider the Darklord a friend, but rather a resource. He believes that the Darklord and he have a mutual outlook of each other.
Sirion Te'Dwa
Hidden: show
The elf that is oft seen on a bench either at the Friendly Arm Inn or at Candlekeep has become one of Reineke's friends. The two enjoy a jest together quite often. Reineke has turned to the elf a few times in order to fill his spellbook, or for just general information, as people seem to generally like Sirion, and tell him much.

(Added 20171222) Reineke asked Sirion to help him found the mage's guild, and made Sirion one of the headmasters.
Solwyn Astorio
Hidden: show
The grumpy half-elf bard of Candlekeep was one of the first people of Candlekeep that Reineke spoke to. Reineke doesn't interact much with Solwyn, but is friendly with him. Reineke does suspect that Solwyn had something to do with a talking bush incident, however...
T
Teris Ynarno
Hidden: show
Reineke usually does not mind when he sees Teris approaching, though sometimes he inwardly groans. As Rein has said before, "Teris is fun when you are bored, but a bother when you are busy".

Since Teris has regained his sanity, and the ability to speak, Reineke has seen little of Teris. He is not avoiding Teris, but is not pushing to see him, either. Reineke knows that Teris is pained by his past with Isabella, and doesn't want to do anything that might exacerbate the issue.

(Added 20171222) Now that Teris is speaking, Reineke has gotten to know him a bit better. Reineke feels somewhat sorry for the druid, but does not want to be an enabler. So Reineke is quick to compliment Teris, but tries to get Teris to work things out on his own.
V
Vala Dunn
Hidden: show
Reineke and Vala have become great friends. He would consider her one of the most important people in his life. He was proud to be asked to walk her down the aisle in her recent wedding to Michael Dunn.

Vala is the reason that Reineke has any sense of style whatsoever, having spent long hours with him helping to alter his uniform and helping him choose some clothes for when he is not in armor. So, if anyone sees Reineke not wearing armor, they have her to thank for it.

Vala has become Captain of Relentless Storm, and has named Reineke as her first mate. Reineke was happy to accept, and plans on helping Vala with the ship whenever needed.
W
Wesmille Groston
Hidden: show
Reineke doesn't interact much with Wesmille, but enjoys his time around the man. His least redeeming quality in Reineke's mind is that he, like Adallan, enjoys puns. Still the two seem to get along very well.
