Jack and John

Two strange men named Jack and John approached the campfire outside of the Friendly Arm Inn. They reported that they had been waylaid by bandits, "We jumped off the wagon as the horses galopped into the wilderness. The bandits followed their bait. We could flee!"
A group made of veterans and greenhorns agreed to help them for a small pay. But strange behavior of Jack and John and the bandits made them very attentive. So together they traveled back to the place of the ambush. The tracks into the forest were easy to follow so they soon found the wagon. It was damaged badly and the horses were gone. Without further exploration of the surroundings they started to repair the wagon and searched the remaining goods while Isabella and Ralmevik watched John and Jack and the trees.
Suddenly and without warnings five doppelgangers jumped out from behind the trees and attacked. John and Jack changing their shape attacked as well. Those that were suprised fell fast. Only Isabella and Ralmevik as well as the swift halfling Pokey reacted and fought back. After a short fight all was over and the doppelgangers laid dead in the grass together with their wounded companions. The corpses of the creatures looked starved out. Guards were set again while the others healed the wounds and prepared again. The group decided to follow the tracks of the doppelgangers to look for more of them.
Carefully they moved around some huge rocks as they spotted a giant doppelganger in the distance. It guarded a small cave with gold and treasures. But this time they were all together and prepared. So it took them not very long to kill the creature. It had some surprises for them but the veterans of the party were to strong for it. So with a loud clash it fell down to the ground under the cheering of the vitcor.

About Killing a Lich!

Some say that you can't kill what is already dead. Liches are an almost universally evil form of undead. The process of achieving lichdom required that the spellcaster construct a powerful magical artifact, a phylactery, in which the lich stores its life essence.

Netkill sat at the throne surrounded by his death knight guards. A mist hovered up the stairs. Arriving at the platform it took the form of a shadow beast.
"Akszerael, my loyal servant. Do you have news from the fields?", Netkill asked the scout in a long forgotten language. The misty beast bowed and reported to the lich, "My Enternal Lord, we have nine new recruits from the Fields of the Dead. They will be ready to join our forces as soon as their souls are taken. Everything is already prepared for their arrival." Netkill smiled and lifted himself up by using his mage staff. With a red blaze in his empty eye sockets he looked around his minions. "So we will wait for them! Let us see if they do better then the last recruits", the skeletal mouth formed the words with great joy. Evil laughing sounded through the dark halls of the crypt.

Several hours later and after a long hunt a party of nine still living adventurers took a side exit and left the crypt. They looked really terrible but also happy to see the sunlight once again. They had killed a lich and a dragonlich. They had destroyed both their phylacteries after they defeated the dragonlich in an epic battle. Netkill's plan failed. Keeping the phylactery in his pocket warded with an emergency spell wich teleported it to the dragonlich wasn't good enough for this raid party. But not all lichs are that stupid and incautious. So be warned.
In the end the rumor about one of those many lichs that fled from Orbedal ended as soon as it began thanks to some brave andventurers of the Sword Coast.

Winding Water!

It was night when the party of nine arrived with the amateurishly repaired wagon at the East Gate. After they explained the corpses of Rob and Daron and the barrels full of water from the wellspring of the Winding Water to the attentive guards they were allowed to enter. Brother Marcus of Ilmater was still up at their arrival. The party told him of the broken statue and of Arnold the priest of Eldath.
They had found Arnold at a small cave near the waterfalls and the pool. He was hiding from the water elementals. They reported that the elementals also had killed Rob and Daron and they attacked the party as soon as they got close to the pool. They explained that the priest had been there for some years. He visited the place with his brothers to pray at the sacred pool. But a storm came up and they were attacked by Stormlords, evil worshipers of Talos. His companions died. He could flee. But as he came back he saw the broken statue and the elementals attacked him as well. Probably because he was the one who failed to defend the shrine or for some other reason the water elementals attacked him everytime he tried to leave his hideout. He was captured.
After the party was convinced that he speaks the truth, they helped him to recover the shrine. They guarded him from the attacking waves of elementals that tried to stop him from performing the ritual to Eldath. After some waves the attacks stoped, but the shrine was still desecrated. Arnold told them that they had to get to the source and destroy whatever they will find there. The party moved forward into the pool while Arnold meditated to regain the power for another ritual. The water was not deep but one of the female adventurers was pulled down under the waterfall. After a fight with the elements she was rescued. Together they continued their way through a small passage and entered a bigger pool where they found the source and a very angry huge water elemental. The last fight began and with great discipline and the right tactic they destroyed the elemental.
Brother Marcus listened attentively to the story and they continued to report that the priest of Eldath then restored the statue and consecrated the sacred pool performing another ritual. They told him that they repaired the wagon and filled the water into the barrels before they traveled back to Baldur's Gate without Arnold who traveled home to Elturel. Brother Marcus nodded respectfully as the adventurers completed their report. He thanked them but he also was sad. The mission was no complete success. The main goal had been to bring back Rob and Daron alive. Both have been experienced adventurers. They had done the journey to the source of the Winding Water before. Though, this time their corpses were handed over to the Temple of Ilmater in the yellow light of the street lamp.

Dragon Hunt!

A large party of dragonhunters gathered at the edge of the Reaching Woods. Scouts of Soubar had reported of an increased dragon activity.
Soon after the party entered they found the forest in an uproar. Wyverns, giant snakes and other predators were in alert as huge green dragons hunted through the trees.
Without any warning they attacked the party. But the dozen fighters, mages and hunters easily killed the creatures. With only a few injuries they slowly fought their way through the forest and around the meteor crater. They knew there was defently something wrong.
On the other side of the crater a single adventurer carefully and hidden by magic ranged through the underwoods until he saw some blue lightning in the distance. He had entered the forest nearly at the same time as the large party entered it from the south. As he got closer to the light he saw treasures blinking near a small pillar. From the its top bolts of electricity flashed at the blue crytals that surounded the place. Small blue wyrmlings jumped around. They smelled him and attacked. But the man used his magic and killed them swiftly. As fast as he could he took some of the treasure and fled the place before the dragon mother returned. But it was too late. He saw her in the distance. A great blue wyrm.
But he got luck as he wasn't the only one who spotted the dragon. The large party of adventurers and the green wyrms up in the trees also spotted and followed the blue. A large battle begun. The blue jumped back to his hoard. Realizing that someone killed allmost all her young she raged and attacked everyone in range. The green dragons attacked everything between them and the blue dragon. The dragonhunters kept amazingly disciplined. They formed for an attack at the great wyrm. Soon the green dragons realized that the party were on their side and left the fight to them. With less trouble on their flanks it succeded to surround the great wyrm. The blue called lightning and thunder but it wasn't enough to hold out against all the magic, arrows and blades that hit her. After a long fight she finally left her dragon body and it fell down to the ground with a loud bash.
The dragon hunters cheered and started to look for the treaure that was left. They found all kind of items. Between some rocks they found gems, shimmering weapons and armors, potions, and some dusty books. The green dragons watched them and now that the blue was down they tried a last attack. But the party had set up guards who easily chased the last dragons away. The forest soon feeled a lot calmer but still very dangerous.......maybe too dangerous for a lonly blue wyrmling.

Thank you all for joining "Dragon Hunt!". You did great and I had a lot of fun. A special thank to Carneth Nepht. He easily found the treasure but the great dragon didn't see him as he was very careful. Maybe you will all hear what happened to the small wyrmling another time. If you found one of the books feel free to send me a pm if you want to know more about it. But it is nothing special as they are more or less "common knowledge".

Landslide!

Otto Goldstein of the Torgier Mining Company in Baldur's Gate hired a skilled party of adventurers to search for his caravan. It was sent to Kraak Helzak and already a tenday past due.
They left the Northern Farmlands and headed north to the Fields of the Dead. Skeletons attracted by the large party attacked. The undead bones got smashed easily. After a rest they followed the road to the Troll Claws and arrived at a small mountain pass after a long travel. Soon they noticed that something was wrong. A landtride blocked the path. As they moved closer they saw the remains of the caravan. Dwarves, humans, horses and wagons were smashed by the rocks. Only one wagon was undamaged.
The party slpit and searched the area. They found no survivors but saved several corpses and put them on the wagon. But this was not the only party in this part of the hills. A group of trolls attacked down from the slope. A battle began. It was short and soon it was clear that the adventurers would prevail.
The trolls got burned but there was not much time to the next battle. Something huge winged down from the pass. Some of the adventurers saw a dragon for the first time and ran. The rest faced the dragon and injured it badly. The wyrm escaped into the air and they watched it fly up the mountain. A part of the group followed the dragon while the others guarded the wagon with the dead carvan people.
The scout of the party lead the smaller group to a cave. As they entered they could smell brimstone. Carefully they searched the caverns. In on of them they found the rest of the survivors of the caravan. The dragon waited for them in the main room. It had no chance against the skilled fighters and mages and the large number of intruders. The party cheered as the dragon fell. They looted the treasure hoard and made their way home.

Saving a Kobold

A female and a male fighter investigated the caverns near the Friendly Arm Inn. They got attacked by small groups of gibberlings. They seemed not very dangerous. So they made their way deeper into the cave to walk straight up into the main cave of the furry monsters. After some trouble they killed most of them. As they searched for treasure a mage joined them. Suddenly they heard another voice in a foreign language. It came from a young kobold. They tried to cummunicate and found out that it was captured by the gibberlings. Somehow it had survived. They decided to help the kobold to get back home. Together they traveled all the way back to the Kobold Ruins. It has to be told that it was a very dangerous and exciting adventure. More then one time they managed to escape their final death. Once they arrived at the ruins the kobold said goodbye and gifted a ring to the male fighter.
