Would it be possible to add 'Reset model to default' option to the kit? Meaning resetting to whichever is the 1st model of the type.

Changing type often ends up with cannot change type because your current model has a random number which doesn't exist on the type you are trying to change to. You'll then have to go guessing which might be the "default" for your current type or close enough to be able to see other options.

Would this also help with items that are in a fixed appearance when bought, such as the Robe of Eyes that has been providing ample headache here?
