I think the calculation for AC that occurs on equipping/unequipping gear has some kind of bug when accounting for shield AC and the AC from Ice Troll Berseker.
The TLK and Wiki need to be updated to show that Whirlwind Rage now gives Shield AC
The TLK needs to be updated to show that the Whirlwind Frenzy feat applies a -2 AC penalty if a Shield is equipped
I can meet up with a QC person to show them the issue if they need more specific information, but I will summarize it here.
This issue manifested after I took the Ice Troll Berserker (ITB) feat.
By removing all my gear and going into a Rage I was able to verify that:
Whirlwind Rage correctly provides +2 dodge AC
ITB correctly provides 2 Natural AC
When my character is fully geared (without shield) his AC is 32.
When he rages his AC is 34 (he already has 3 natural AC so he gets no benefit from ITB, just the 2 dodge AC from Whirlwind Rage)
Then he equips his heavy shield +3 and his AC goes up to 39 for a split second, then it seems like a calculation happens and a -2 AC penalty is applied, dropping his AC to 37 when 39 should be the correct value.
Then after Rage ends and the fatigue wears off the -2 AC penalty is still applied. If I unequip/re-equip the shield (which forces a recalculation) then the penalty goes away.
I think the calculation for AC that occurs on equipping/unequipping gear has some kind of bug when accounting for shield AC and the AC from ITB.

That the AC bonus from whirlwind rage is a shield bonus now? If that is correct, then this isn't a calculation bug. But the feat description really should be updated to reflect the change.
Reverting the AC type change for Whirlwind Frenzy but applying a -2 AC penalty when a shield is equipped.
Actually there's also this line in the post you linked the AC bonus type was reverted to dodge but a -2 penalty is applied if you have a shield equipped because it seemed like too much AC.
