Full Spell Progression for Pally/Ranger means?

Unread post by amber91 »

For Paladins/Rangers, I read:
Paladins receive full spellcasting progression, instead of 1/2 progression.
Rangers receive full spellcasting progression, instead of 1/2 progression
I'm not sure I understand what "full spellcasting progression" means in this case. Could someone explain in simple terms? Maybe some examples.

What are the practical differences between 1/2 progression vs. full?
Do they get spells earlier, double slots, double caster level?

Thanks for any insight!

It's the caster level, a level 13 ranger has a caster level of 13, for the rest he gains spells as per vanilla nwn2 : http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Spell_progre ... _or_Ranger

By example from
http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Spell_progre ... _or_Ranger

Base: Char with 10 levels of Paladin has CL (caster level) of 10.
Looking at the above table we see he has one spell of 1st circle and one of second to his disposal.

Variant 1: If we'll add to this char 10 levels of class that gives full spell progression his CL will be 20 witch gives 3 spells per day of 1,2,3,4 circle (as seen in the table)

Variant 2: If we'll add to this char 10 levels of class that gives 1/2 spell progression his CL will be 15 (10 levels of paladin and half of levels of class with 1/2 spell progression)
witch gives 2,1,1,1 spells per day of 1,2,3,4 circle (as seen in the table)

Let's see if I understand: before this change, (in the original campaign?) a pure Paladin 10 would have had a CL of 5?

Thanks for the explanations! I think I understand now :)

Correct, in the vanilla NWN2 Rangers and Paladins have only half CL meaning their spells are weaker, shorter duration, easier to dispel. On BG they have full CL progression (even though their spells/day is unchanged).
