Curious what this site is.. something iffy fishing for logins, or something genuine?

you can still use it though, as long as you only read if you stop the loading at the right time...

As above, this used to be our old forum (well, we had an even oooolder one than bgtscc1, but don't worry about that one, as it's super ancient now).

We no longer have direct control over bgtscc1 (as of about this time last year), as it was owned and maintained by Luna -- a previous server admin who's no longer actively involved in the community.

I dont think those are up anymore, are they? :cry:

Last I looked I thought they were down. Sad deal, there was a lot of great RP and early server stuff there still.

The Iron Throne was a thing once? We should bring it back :).

Candlekeep was also born there. :D

I think we'd moved to the new boards before I wrote my Candlekeep anthem though:

Code: Select all

Stand tall, stand tall for Candlekeep
A bastion for knowledge.

Lift your sword, your staff for Candlekeep
Our dear beloved home.

We proudly wear blue at Candlekeep,
The color of heaven above.

And we live our lives for Candlekeep,
For truth, for dreams, for love.

And so I stand for Candlekeep;
I stand with special pride;

I pledge myself to Candlekeep;
And for Candlekeep I die.
Those were the days. I totally sang this song, too, and backed myself up on the harmonica. (Not going to share it, before anyone asks!)

Ah, to be a player again, with nothing but possibilities on the horizon!

The Lord's Alliance building used to be the home of the Iron Throne. It's why the NPC out front is such a rude jerk. The quest used to be named "Iron for Iron," referring to the Iron Throne.

People pushed to have it changed because the Iron Throne was not around yet, as far as the official canon timeline was concerned. A lot of the alpha and beta versions of BG had significant amounts of post-Time of Troubles lore, even though the setting has always been pre-Time of Troubles. Much of its early years being polished were us smoothing out lore ruffles like this one.

Ah, yes, it's not the first time I read about that. Iron Throne only appearing after the Time of Troubles.

But so is FAI, it only got conquered after the time of troubles too (started playing BG1 enhanced edition again :)).

Some ruffles are just too much fun not to have. But I understand.

Too bad the Istari Tower isn't around anymore. Was it where the Thayan Enclave is now?

Anyways it's great fun reading in that old forum.

My old PC was a trendsetter in that she got the Iron Throne to build the theater before they even existed. 8-)

The Friendly Arm Inn was actually built in 1346 (The Year of the Bloodbird) in the canon lore, which is why Broham1 led the siege plot on the old temple of Bhaal (which used to stand where FAI stands now -- it was a grind map with gnolls on it) with Bentley that year (2010).

It could be argued that this was our server's first "metaplot." Although it wasn't the first to be called by that name, and didn't last all year; it was the first time multiple DMs worked very closely together over a large portion of the server for multiple days in a row. Which has since become a staple of metaplot story arcs at their climaxes.

Yes and no.

In game, the lore is that the Red Wizard enclave was built on the grounds used by, and in the tower previously owned by, the Weave Masters (later renamed the Istari Tower) -- but both the city of Baldur's Gate and the Red Wizard guildhall have seen several updates since then. So in character it's the same place/building, but out of character it's definitely not.

Once you've seen behind the curtain, you just can't unsee it. :?

I went back and read lots of your old IC posts earlier, some of mine, and some of the other old timers. Things sure have changed!

ALMOST TEN YEARS! I have done very few things for that length of time in my life.
