Lying disappearing conman

Unread post by HauteCarl »

Greetings Heroes!

I am in need of direction. I will be Roleplaying myself and so I wish to create a character that will (as accurately as possible) portray myself when slaying dragons, saving villagers, lying to the local magistrate, or selling children for a modest profit.

Therefore I will now list my most exceptionally exceptional characteristics and you my dear Heroes shall play a part in writing this wondrous tale of thrilling adventure and mayhem.

My best features are as follows.

I am a sneaky annoying liar. I can hide in plain sight and if you see me, I will simply tell you. "No you don't" If at this point you still see me, I will cast invisibility and run away.

I am a highly literate con man. I once led an entire congregation in worship to Oghma, disguised as a lady cleric while reading from a scroll taped to the brim of my hat.

I have some rudimentary magic skills. Just enough to distract a small crowd of two or three.

I always keep at least two weapons upon my person.

I am a terrible archer and shooter of things.

I have achieved grand mastery in laziness but as it is not a sought after talent I do not get to display it as often as I would like.

I can sing when required and have been told my voice is quite lovely on the ears but due to an accident with my scrotum and the handle of a cabinet my bladder is weak and I suffer from stage fright.

I feel like I am highly dexterous, although my wife disagrees.

I am human. I am a liar. I am HauteCarl.

What would be a handy bard /shadow dancer build that makes use of pointy weapons and is stabbity with sneak attacks but also has decent overall dps.

Is there a way to throw in 1 level of master of disguise?

One level of any class don't work as there is a min of 3 levels you need to have for any class you take when reaching level 20.

Bard has no sneak attack neither does shadow dancer.

From what I gathered bard, shadow dancer would be resembling what you are looking for the most.

Not sure dipping into bard makes much sense, one could think of arcane trickster maybe...

You may want to read the Server rules, namely 3b20 (you must take a minimum of 3 levels in each class by level 20) so you would not be able to have 1 level of MoD. Also, a Pure Bard is generally better at disguise than a Master of Disguise is, if you were to name all of the classes as "Class A", "Class B" etc. and were trying to build a disguiser, you'd likely not even take the MoD class if you were going Bard.

Also, note that this server has a dispel fix, so when you consider Practiced Caster Feat you have 4 non-caster levels (or 1 class) to play with before you drop below caster level 30. With HiPS you have some protection so you might be ok going as low as CL25 or 26, which means you want at least Bard level 21, which is great because you also want Hymn of Requiem!

There are a couple routes you could take depending on how much of a sneak you want to be...

1. Bard22/Tempest5/SD3 - more of a STR based Dual Wielder with a bit of DEX than a sneak attack character.

2. Bard 22/Assassin 8 - Same caster level (26), still get's HiPS, but also gains 4d6 death attack dice.

3. B4/R16/A10 - If you want just a little bard for flavor, but are mostly still looking to be a Rogue.

Just a few simple ideas, depending on what type of mechanics interest you.

the only two classes that have hips come with some RP baggage. the bard package is spot on and a rogue dip makes a bunch of sense. but hips from sin comes with some nefarious training and SD's are linked to the plane of shadows in some weird way.

from what you are posing, neither of these seem to fit real well. of course anything can be twisted to fit if you wanted.

Avenger was integrated in to Assassin on the server which is why there is no Avenger class and Assassin can be good. However, based on the description his character is kind of an evil prick anyway... :P

What do you do in RL?

If you work in consturction you wil have to roll a dwarf.
If you are a cop play a paladin.
If you are a nurse play a cleric.
If you work with animals you wil be a druid or ranger.
If you are a lawyer you wil have to play a extreemly evil warlock.

I build servers and work with hosting storage and applications.

Bard 22 / Assassin 8. So per server rules I would need to take at least 3 assassin levels before level 20?

What would the stat spread be on this to be effective and not a party pooper?

Not "before" by or at level 20. So Bard 17 Assassin 3 is totally legal. Although most want to get to assassin 8 as fast as possible.
