i actually considered OOBI for a while while i was driving today. and this moves outside of PnP but how awful would it be to allow WM type benefits to the class at like the 7th and 10th level while using and succeeding on ranged precision. a slight buff to the crit chance and then another to the multiplier. this would certainly make up for the deficiencies of the class and doesnt really OP the class in any way. at 7 and 10 it makes for a huge investment and wouldnt devalue the class to a 4 or 5 level dip. seems a good work through and doesnt stand outside of the RP of the class either.

OOBI already has plentiful damage. At level 10 they get +10 ranged precision damage and a further +2 from Sharpshooting mode, all of which multiplies with critical hits and doubles again for Manyshot. The problem is their bonus damage does not apply consistently enough to merit taking the class, but we're -almost- there. Almost!

Thanks to the Devs for trying but OOBI (Extended) Sharpshooting still does not apply Precision Damage consistently after the most recent update (at least it kind-of applies for the 2nd and 3rd flurries of attacks in the first combat round after activation... sometimes).

Sharpshooting needs a complete overhaul in my opinion because the way it's designed now just is not working consistently (especially on the first flurry of attacks for the first round of combat, where a stealth archer needs to deal the most damage).

The way it works now (chronologically) for level a level 10 OOBI:

1. Activate Sharpshooting out of combat as a mode.
2. Enter Combat - Roll Initiative
3. Make 1st Flurry of Attacks (No Ranged Precision AB/Damage Bonus applied. Ever.)
4. Roll Concentration vs DC (determined by range)
  • If Success, Apply Ranged Precision Bonus AB & Damage
If Failure, no bonuses applied for steps 5 & 6
5. Make 2nd Flurry of Attacks (Precision Bonuses Applied if successful @ step 4)
6. Make 3rd Flurry of Attacks (Precision Bonuses Applied if successful @ step 4)
7. Repeat from step 3 for next combat round.

NB: Making (one or more) combat dodge animations/delay during any of steps 3 through 6 will cause Ranged Precision bonus damage via Sharpshooting to disappear from the character.

The way Sharpshooting should work (in my opinion):

1. Activate Sharpshooting out of combat as a mode.
2. Apply Bonus AB & Sharpshooting Damage Bonuses out of combat (permanent buff akin to Power Attack, etc)
3. Enter Combat - Roll Initiative
4. Roll Concentration vs DC (determined by Range)
  • If Success, Ranged Precision + Sharpshooting damage/AB bonuses maintained as per step 2.
If Failure, remove Ranged Precision + Sharpshooting Damage/AB Bonuses until next Concentration Check @ step 4.
5. Make 1st Flurry of Attacks
  • If Sharpshooting (OOBI Level 6), remove Bonus AB/Damage after ~2 seconds/first flurry.
If Extended Sharpshooting (OOBI Level 10), bonuses are permanent as long as Sharpshooting Mode is active, unless Concentration Check failed.
6. Make 2nd Flurry of Attacks
7. Make 3rd Flurry of Attacks
8. Repeat from Step 4 for next combat round.

NB: Because Sharpshooting mode applies ranged Precision AB/Damage permanently as a combat mode (unless Concentration check failed), combat animations/delays will not cause it to disappear.

It might be a bit of work but having the bonus AB/Damage applied permanently unless the Concentration Check is failed will but guarantee it is applied from the first shot each and every battle because the Concentration DC isn't that difficult to beat (usually DC~21-25 at max range).

Bump

maybe they get just a small increase to range? Doesn't have to be the 120 it was going at before, maybe just a +10 ft bonus would still be really cool, and maybe not as hard to code as sharpshooter. Thank you!

What this bug change exactly ? It makes the class less effecicient ?

About this class, I don't understand what the wiki says here :

"You mark your target and take a concentration check every round before your attack, but you limit yourself to half of your normal attacks. If successful you gain an extra +2 precision damage and an additional +2 attack bonus vs the target. The Sharpshooting DC starts at 10 + 29% of the distance to the target."

Can you explain me ?

It’s buggy but I think it’s still worth taking for a long range archer
Djaimin Shadowcat - Soft hearted archer of Shevarash
Lyra - Necromancer-Archmage of the Sshamath School of Necromancy
Scorpia Lux - Apprentice Enchanter of the Thayan Enclave
