ranger companion
got a ranger companion (worg) and i dont remember it being this poor. there were some changes to summons and companions and were the ranger companions nerfed a bit? Right now i am playing a CR that is -1 to my level5 (all ranger) and my companion cannot live past 2 rounds in any fight.

Re: ranger companion
The animal companion will always be behind because rangers get it at 4th levels. Once you get the full spellbook and are able to buff then it will be decent, however at that point you will end up with spell slot shortage. Even though rangers get full CL their bonus spell slots still half progress

Re: ranger companion
i have done the ranger build a few times and i do not remember it being so squishy. in fact i remember having it be able to tank early on my bow ranger build. i guess my question is, did the ranger pet get nerfed or is the worg generally weaker than the cat/wolf? i think the AC is 13 and HP's are 13. this is how it is supposed to be?
edit: wanted to make sure it is as intended. and something did not go wrong when the summons got updated.

Might need natural bond in addition? Druid companions will usually be better at level.

Re: ranger companion
or have a pet for cosmetic reasons LOL. aka no room for an extra feat on this build. it's tight. real tight. gap might close later on. at least i can hope it does.Tantive wrote:Might need natural bond in addition? Druid companions will usually be better at level.

They are the same. Nothing happened to them.aaron22 wrote:i have done the ranger build a few times and i do not remember it being so squishy. in fact i remember having it be able to tank early on my bow ranger build. i guess my question is, did the ranger pet get nerfed or is the worg generally weaker than the cat/wolf? i think the AC is 13 and HP's are 13. this is how it is supposed to be?

I have plans for adding ~20 new animal companions including lion, crocodile and crab.

Re: ranger companion
Oh, my, don't tell us, if this change is only being implemented in a year, Nachti.
I would hate you
.
As for the animal companion, natural bond and epic animal companion are a must if you want to rely on them. Going wisdom and zen archery gives you enough slots to be able to shoot well and buff decently.
UMD for wands etc. for death ward for instance.
It is a very solid build.

Re: ranger companion
the build concept is not reliant on the companion. it was just something extra i was looking at and thought would be somewhat better. i cannot afford in the build to spend one on natural bond or epic companion. i will live with it as is. i do not expect to have everything. i just didnt remember it being this weak the last time i used one and wanted to make sure something wasnt amiss.
