Clarification on PVP

Unread post by Squ4d13 »

Good evening,
I am trying to find some assistance, and I was hoping you might be able to help. I am still relatively new to bgtscc, only playing for what seems a few weeks now, but I thought I had a fairly decent idea of what to expect, as far as PvP is concerned. My understanding, is that a player must always "give consent" prior to any PvP taking place. What I am curious of, is what would be the repercussions if I were to chase someone down and then proceed to attack and/or kill their character, without consent being given?

The reason I ask, is that I ran into a group of individuals tonight, at about 8pm Central Time, who I do not feel were following the server rules.

Not to quote what you already know, but just to show the part that I am confused about. The "PVP Rules and Guidelines" forum post says:
"...It is the challenged party's role to employ an appropriate RP "out" that does not escalate further hostilities (bargaining, walking away, etc.)..."

I thought that if my character were not to consent to PVP, that the other players should not proceed to chase me down, through multiple areas, and proceed to attack/kill my character.

My account of what happened:
A group of players declared hostility towards me, as I was casting buffs and summons. When I saw the hostility, I tried to "walk away" by leaving the area through a transition. Then, once on the other side of the transition, I began heading across this new area, towards a different transition. The players followed me through the first transition, and as I was still going away from them, they then declared hostility again. They proceeded to chase my character, attacking my summons, even though I was still going away from their group. At this point, I thought that they would be done with their assault, as I had still been going away from them, through the onslaught against my summons, and my character was most of the way across the new area now. However, their speed allowed them to get within casting range of my character, before I could make it through another transition, and at this point, they began casting various offensive spells. My character was knocked down to the ground and life was reduced to non-existence.

AFAIK you would have to consent before pvp can take place. A DM would be able to better answer your question.

For curiosity sake - was the 'summon' an undead?

For the record, chat logs made by the client extension are simple text documents and can be altered by anyone who can type letters and numbers. They do not appear to be marked in any way to suggest/distinguish alterations that the client made vs that someone just altering the document made.

They aren't very good as evidence, since any player can alter them (or have another player alter theirs) before sending them in.

If only they recorded as PDFs and had some sort of signature on them that erased itself when they are converted to another format or altered in any way while in PDF form. That would be so nice. . .

DMs will answer but no, they should not follow you through transitions. That is against the rules. Easy mistake for new players, so let's hope they are. Undead summons are KOS though and if you try to defend them in anyway, verbal, or otherwise, you are giving consent to PVP.

They should not be following through transitions or attacking without a reason (I.e. unmasked Drow on the surface, you just did a crime). Next time this happens please take screenshots and send it to the DM team.

If its the incident i think it was... You cast Undead Army near the transition to cloakwood in front of the FAI.....

The amount of people casting summons of devils/demons/undead and running pets through there without ANY concern lately is ridiculous...

Just to specify another matter, taking an RP out has to be in the context of the situation. Walking away from a bar fight isn't the same as walking away when a group of hostile bandits that runs up on you. Fleeing is likely a better RP out then (ie not casually leaving, as the purpose is to reduce or escape the hostility and pissing people off by sauntering off isn't achieving that). This isn't a comment on the OP as I don't know the exact context but I've seen this sort of confusion about the rules many times since they were rewritten.

That said, as it has been echoed above, chasing through transitions isn't permissible as they represent a great distance in many cases and represents escaping the PvP.

Its also not acceptable to godmod NPC's and ignore that they exist by summoning an ARMY OF UNDEAD in front of the transition to cloakwood, full view to the silver rose keep, and a group of people... (two druids included) and then casual waltz over a transition as soon as they approach you, while apparently as the first post states "knowing the rules".... Clearly perfectly acceptable.

Seeing how I was there watching, this person came through the transit, sat on it what starting doing their buffs in full view of four of us while we're icly rping. Myself(silv druid), Kald(pala), Wolf(silv druid), and Hinzel, and all of us saw him cast 'army of the dead ' what summoned up four undead in plain view of everyone there. Isn't there something about openly summon undead and necromancy? kald asked him to pretty much de-summon them, he fled through the transit knowing he was doing something wrong from the warning that was given as his rp out.

Just PM the DM team, it's not going to do any good hashing this out here.

To clarify and summarize:
  • Undead summons are Kill on Sight. People are allowed to kill summons when they see them.
  • Between the attacking party and the summoner, the PVP rules must still be followed, which means the summoner still get's an RP out, if he/she so desires. Even summoning undead does not count as consent.

There are a couple of situations in which the above does not hold. An example would be if the undead would be summoned within city limits, or in front of NPC guards. That might count as consent. However, that would still be, and probably is now reason to PM the DM team about this. They can decide how to handle this situation.

The public forums however, are no place to discuss this.
