Background:
Gorst hails from the Blackhammer clan, a small but well respected clan hailing from Dunspeirrin, the city of spires. Gorst grew up with his 2 brothers, sister, father, his own mother and his fathers 2 other wives and several half-brothers and sisters whom he was kept aside from. He and his siblings were born from a noble alliance from his father Bramedan and mother Magda Stonerake and were seen as the future of the clan, his father often stated as much in order to keep the alliance with the Stonerakes strong, much to the annoyance of his other wives and children who appeared to have been disinherited. Gorst was his mothers favourite, she saw him as strong and full of promise and from a young age she began converting him to the worship of Deep Duerra in secret, away from the rest of the Blackhammers who held Laduger in the highest regard. When Gorst came of age he was already known for being hotblooded and possessed an irascible temper, his father had him assigned to the city guard where he flourished and often worked together with a Norothor named Hardgt who incited Gorst to commit more aggressive attacks and assaults to threats against the city which were often successful and had him lauded with more responsibilities and influence among the soldiery, although he was never much of a leader and was simply a noble figurehead shadowed by Hardgt.
As his popularity grew he took wives and fathered children, he didn't care for his offspring, save for his firstborn daughter Ulara, whom he saw as being full of promise, he was unattentive and distant to his wives, preferring to be fighting horrors than to spend time with them. Whilst his children were instructed in whatever way his wives saw fit, he personally took Ulara to be taught by his mother, firstly as his mother was a skilled arcanist and secondly to keep his daughter from her own mother, whom he described as a "black pudding with none of the personality".
Time came when he had his own command of a small force of guardsmen and he openly embraced his faith of Deep Duerra, to the outrage of his father and quiet approval of his mother, who diplomatically prevented him from being exiled from the clan. Until he listened to advice from Hardgt to take his soldiers and clear a newly discovered cavern, whilst his own forces where small and this cavern was large, he was eager to achieve such a victory and prove himself as the worthiest successor to the Blackhammers and show the superiority of Deep Duerra to all.
It went, to put it bluntly; Poorly.
Upon entering and setting up camp within the cavern they where set upon by all manner of tunneling beasts, cave-ins and poisonous gases from vents leading to the Lowerdark, Hardgt died in the first 24 hours, choking to death on some invisible fumes, Gorst struggled to inspire his men as he did, relying on beatings and threats to keep them pushing, losing men to predators each day until all had either deserted him or died ingloriously, Gorst was forced to return home where his family had already engineered further misfortune for him.
His siblings, his father and his 3rd wife Hilga had already prepared a "hearing" for Gorsts actions. With his father putting Magda under house arrest for the proceedings and Hardgts silver tongue filling the belly of cave carrion Gorst was forced to defend himself, which went as well as could be expected; He shouted and cursed, accusing his accusers of cowardice and naming his men deserters and cravens, he refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing and called for his siblings and father to fight him for his honour, he was elegantly refused and the hearing was overwhelmingly in his family's favour. He was stripped of rank, imprisoned and was to suffer exile. Whilst he waited to be branded, his mother entered instead, berating him for his hot-headedness as she prepared the tattoos that would mark him as an exile and criminal, her last act of care for her son being to weave dark magics into the tattoos over his body, to protect him during his foray into the wilds of the Underdark, once she was done she instructed him to travel to Sshamath, where she studied, and sell his axe, as that was all he was good at.
Gorst was given armour and weaponry to last his presumably short life in exile, but instead he persevered, he traversed narrow caverns filled with biting beasts, he crossed over the deepest pitfalls and was ferried over deep seas filled with malevolent powerful beasts until finally, he made it to the City of Dark Weavings to begin a new chapter of his life.
Goals: Achieve the respect he once commanded, get rich doing so, in the far future return to Dunspeirrin and lay his clan holdings to waste or start a new clan, with himself at the head.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
Has numerous children whom he did not hide his disdain from and treacherous wives who hated him.
His own clan, likely his siblings looking to cement themselves through his death.
His willingness to serve as a mercenary and his own greed for wealth and prestige, even in a foreign city.
