GOG NWN2 on Linux cannot connect to server
Circumnstances forced me to take out a backup laptop that has Ubuntu installed. There, using Play on Linux, I installed NWN2 through the GOG edition and tried to connect to server.
And failed.
Any idea why it cannot connect?

Re: GOG NWN2 on Linux cannot connect to server
No error message given, however when connecting after timeout using a numerical IP I've been given on IRC, I get to the ADL screen where it shows 0/1.8gb with no download speed, thus it hangs eternally. Using game.bgtscc.net doesn't give this result.Steve wrote:What was the error message?
Tried, no dice.Aspect of Sorrow wrote:sudo ufw disable and try again.
What I find interesting is that even without Client Extension, the Gamespy login is instantenous instead of needing a minute as it should. It reminds me of when I personally edited the DNS files a long time ago on another to circumnvent needing client extension when I used Linux in 2014/13.

Did you try downloading the BGTSCC Server files manually, installing in the right places, and then try logging in?

So, you're having problems downloading the Server files—or resolving them—but can you actually play the game, like load up and play MotB for a while?

Re: GOG NWN2 on Linux cannot connect to server
Solution was pretty simple.
PlayOnLinux by default installs NWN2 using 1.5.27 version of Wine. This has name server resolution problems.
Four steps are needed to fix this.
1st: get the 32 bit DNS resolution libraries for your distribution
2nd: go to PoL, configure NWN2 and choose 1.8.6 Wine version under general.
3rd: ???
4th: profit
