NH does work with unarmed, but I would not recommend it. A big deficiency with NH that is rarely mentioned is that it doesn't calculate crit damage correctly. I tried it with a monk build and my crits would often deal less damage than normal hits, skewing the average damage in favor of disabling it completely. Especially considering the hit you take to AC and AB. As a fist-fighting monk I would spend my precious feats elsewhere.

When I made this feat I only tested it with barbians and a number of fighter combinations, with melee weaponry.
Its cool to see how its used in numerous out-of-the-box combinations. But its sort of a hack, so I I'm not surprised if its not working right for unarmed attacks. I don't think that can be fixed either (but feel free to take a stab, dedude).

Yeah. Crit isn't quite right. Not sure what it is.

Is it just me or does the very word 'Hewing' not reciprocate with an image one can do with their fists, or any blunt object for that matter?

Pummeling fists? Not so much.

For me the word hewing conjures up visions of an axe struck down again and again.

hew [/b]
hewed; hewed or hewnplay \ˈhyün\; hewing
transitive verb
1: to cut with blows of a heavy cutting instrument; roughly hewn logs
2: to cut down by blows of an ax; hew a tree
3: to give form or shape to with or as if with heavy cutting blows; hewed their farms from the wilderness

And that, my friend, is why it's wise to remain ever vigilant for axe-wielding clowns. :o

Is the bugginess with crits specific to unarmed hewing, or does it apply to hewing with weapons as well?

It applies to weapons as well, it's just more obvious with unarmed since there are more dices to maximize.

Also, weapons tend to come with bigger critical hit multipliers and massive critical hit properties tend to be more common with them as well. Hence, the critical damage with weapons tends to be slightly or considerably higher than the default Northlander Hewing damage.

Could it be possible to add a free feat, toggled on and or off, that prevents the player from scoring critical hits? I think it could help those unarmed Northlander Hewing Monks. I think they would appreciate doing that 30 damage hit instead of 3 points of damage multiplied by 2...

If it's possible to disable criticals entirely it might make more sense to disable them when Hewing, but in exchange allow more attacks per round. Or something.

There seems to be another bug than the critical-related one at work. My Unarmed fighter build cannot seem to activate NH. When I log in (after reset) and click the feat, it says 'NH deactivated'. When I click again (some time later) nothing happens and the damage remains at regular level.

Really? Others have used NH with fists with no issues. Did this just start happening recently? Screen shots of feat activation and combat log might help Valefort or another Dev localize what the problem might be.

Also on the wiki it states that the lowest AB attacks are lost but from my own experience you lose the attacks at the bottom of flurry chain. For instance, the haste attack and two weapon attacks are at the bottom of the flurry chain and it looks like I’m losing my full AB bonus haste/whirlwind rage attack rather than just the lowest AB attacks.

You're right the description is not always correct, the last attacks are the substracted ones (there's no other way).

Yes, this problem is new and occurs since the latest update. I just double checked IG. It is as I described above. The first click on NH gets me a msg 'NH is deactivated' - even though its bonus damage was not previously applied on the character sheet or in combat before that, nor is there a change in AC after the click. The cooldown gets triggered. After I wait for it to pass, and then a minute or two for extra measure, and then click the feat again, nothing at all happens except for the cooldown getting triggered (hence a screenshot would be useless, I fear). Then, after clicking a third time, the same happens as at the beginning ('NH is deactivated' etc.).
