This would also make appraise skill less interesting unless the +1/+2 items were replaced by gems, either way this looks a very minor annoyance while those items can be useful for a short time for newcomers.

To be honest with appraise, unless you are *buying* something, I think appraise is useless. There's no real reason to worry about appraise being good/bad for you if you can find something that caps the merchant. Really, a +1 sometimes will auto-cap them at their maximum limit, even at zero appraise.

This also assumes that what you DID find was even worth any merchant's time.

For me this evening:

Standard tower shield, negative energy burst, Bonus spell level 1 ranger boots, +3 hp chain shirt, strong tangle trap, a battle axe, and a fire agate

Nah, j/k, you're still super cool, but c'mon man, really? An epic chest spawn gets a "meh"?

Last night I logged in for a 5 mins to do the Malcom and Matty. I found a light shield +3AC -5% ASF ( for a total of zero ). Not bad.

As far as appraise, it makes those items that people want to remove, sell for the max value. A +1 sword that would go around 500 with 0 appraise it will sell to over a thousand with appraise. Useless is not the word to characterize appraise. On the contrary...

AC81 wrote: I assumed you meant taking these items out. Along with other threads about removing junk or whatever, in my mind that means an increased chance of finding higher tier items (not even sure the loot system works like that).
The paradigm that has been designed is: run circles looting, more or less an OOC behavior, kinda like a "I have to do this to get what I want" scenario. As has been pointed out by many, DMs find themselves unable to equal this system, in terms of reward-for-time-spent.

I can RP my heart out, make every effort in every minute to forward role-play, but come up light-years short of what AC81—hi AC!!!! —can do just on an "off day" of his regular Circle Farming. Or, M3nt. Or, Chad. Or, Monkey Man. 3 out of 4 of this people are Staff, who make decisions about Change. Perhaps then, if the Circle Farming paradigm IS REALLY SO GOOD, then I guess it is DEFINITELY time to remove the chains of the DMs, and let them start to gift to their hearts desire. Let favoritism be great again!!!

:|

+1/+2 items are simply being discarded or ignored all over the Server. +1/+2 items being generated to fill up Inventory to be traded for Coin are altogether unnecessary, since it could just as easily be Coin +/- gems, which stack (saving inventory). Not to forget to mention that unlimited enchanted items is pretty ridiculous, any way you look at it (and this applies to all aspects of the Server design, if you'd ask me...which you probably don't want to, or, don't need to, since you know what I think!).

What is the goal, right? Circle Farming in order to "trade in" one commodity for another, using the 2nd commodity for getting exactly what you want = Epic Store Items. THAT seems to be the paradigm promoted.

However, it ALSO seems to be working for some, not all. As evidenced by my own empirical experiences as of late. So still, the balance is not there.

What I am saying is to adjust this Constructed Economy to be more direct, instead of more indirect, because the indirect route is just a fabrication, totally without realism...so why not bypass the "extra effort" part and get right to the heart? It is EVEN more realistic, when you look at it.

You can also look at how +1/+2 items are not even worth using, since you can equip a +4 item at Level 1, now. Add to that the massive increase in availability of +3/+4 items on the Server, and you'll see that we are racing towards a devaluation of those upper tier items, and quick.

Coin is a unit of measurement. It has a transferable aspect that +1/+2 items do not—except to become Coin. Why not just go straight to coin? I mean...isn't this WHY coin was invented in the first place?

More Coin, less Crap. See! It's a great motto! Get on board, eh?!

Well supposing we implanted a crafting system then +1 and +2 items should be provided by a player economy anyway...........These items could be replaced by crafting items instead. This does not up the EPIC loot chances since we trading out item for item. Thereby leaving the system intact in my thought and also making what you find more viable yeah? I am pretty sure rare crafting items are going to be worth a good amount of gold on auction or player economy system. There are ways I think. Not to totally derail this thread but how is the implementation of the pack horse system coming? Honestly if I had a way to pack all that +1 junk out I would and make some serious effin gold but as it stands I have only enough room on my item carry list for like 20 items so that means only the best......I am not actually a picky treasure hunter. I am more of a junker and willing to sell anything I can find for any price......Win by volume says I!

So I think possibly there may be things in the works along with the RIG system attached that may make this better?

You're way too impatient.

Getting rich takes WORK. Just "RPing your heart out" is not enough, you need to RP a merchant and be damn good at being that merchant. Build connections, seek deals, maintain ledgers, etc.

With all that in mind, I took a stroll yesterday for the first time in many weeks, and effortlessly made something like 10k on +1/+2 items alone. It was a lot of fun too. Not sure what the problem is supposed to be.

You, as a DM, cannot reward people who are roleplaying treasure hunters while trying to remain immersed the entire time rather than commit to OOC tactics. Try to play a paladin questing to acquire his holy avenger, even if it is weaker than the weapons random joe can loot through their "let's grind chests" routine, you will be accused of favoritism - even if you never interacted with this player before, and was merely compelled by their efforts as shown through their dedicated forum posts and journal entries.

You can put your whole soul into it, and you won't really get rewarded as the DMs will fear that the rest of the server will accuse them of favoritism.

And as a player, you also experience this lovely backlash from people snickering behind your back.

I have been finding RIG items I have never seen before here. The system is very much tons better. Now I do not go to the lizard cave that is for sure. I go to Grey Peak, Frost King and Vault of the Dead for my lewts and it is super good! On the average I loot only the Vault of the dead each day because I have so much RP coming out my ears right now I ain't got the time to lewt. I am still making a solid 200k a week for sure just doing one dungeon a day to 3 dungeons a day.

For the first time in 5 years I am finding Vamp Regen +2 stuff and +3 Items with extra +3 on them. LIke +3 Wis +3 Mind Saving Throws. So yeah it is doing good in my opinion. Nice to be the guy for once saying it is fine to be honest......

I do still find an enormous amount of junk.....but now I am finding diamonds in the trash too!

hmmm...sounds like it needs to be reigned in....except that I have looted similar places and, while getting decent loot drops I haven't seen anything that is going to shift balance of the server. Would be interested in hearing others thoughts, though I imagine the ones getting really good drops are far less likely to post such evidence than those who have been disappointed with the loot system lately.

In any case, it certainly warrants further investigation.

Don't you QC guys have other things to do?

THIS IS NOT THE THREAD YOU ARE LOOKING FOR *Waves hand by Chads face*

Look it is not over the top is what I am saying. It is very much good but not like oh look I can compete with AC81 and Karond yet.......

Now maybe some of the lower tier chests could be a bit better but the Epic Dungeons are finally kicking out something worth the risk.

Maybe dedude was able to make chests know what level the PC is and give better drops when you are in a CR appropriate area? Not sure if he did or not, but I know it was at least discussed.

That would be cool if we could attach CR appropriate RIG drops to every area. In fact I am changing my mind about the RIG now.....I think I called it a monstrosity? Yeah does not seem that way now.......
