Light Flails

Unread post by AlfarinIcebreaker »

So is there any shopkeeper who sells these new light flails? I want to test them out. From what I understand, the new light flail is a small weapon, so it can be fineassable and also takes advantage of Deadly Defense? The only light flail I came upon was in Blushing Mermaid, it's a really nice one so I'd like to check it out better.

I do not think there are others. And not sure it works with Weapon Finesse either.

They don't work with weapon finesse.
There are at least two others that can be found as loot.

Does Improved Critical : Flail work with them? And can they be dual wielded reliably? I'm having a STR based Ranger build in mind, that could work.

yeah, the flails with 1d6 damage and crit ratio of 19-20/x2 can be dualwielded. I do not think power attack works with them either... But, Northlander Hewing does. It works even with daggers.... Hewing with daggers... Ah...

I bnelieve Chad tested weapon focus feats, so I believe the flail feats should all work.

You can review this thread for the findings. There is an outstanding QC topic to address the fact that they are not currently finessable, but no changes have been implemented yet.

No, do not work with Power Attack. You lose 3 AB, but you do not gain damage. Just to be certain i also tested with IPA and they don't work with that either. However, it does appear they get additional bonus STR damage when nothing is in the off hand. Note that the character sheet goes wonky when you turn power attack on and off, making the bonus damage inaccurate, but based on the combat log, regardless if PA is on or off it will not work with Light Flail.

Can not be finessed.

It appears that they do get the extra piercing damage, but this is difficult to say. Based on the combat log though I am fairly confident the light flails will work with Duelist Precise Strike Damage.

Basically they are light weapons for the purposes of dual wielding, but not finessable and do not work with Deadly Defense (even though the description says any light weapon or any weapon with the finesse indicator). I will flag this in QC for discussion, but for now they work as flails, that can be used in the off hand or used by a duelist, if you prefer them to a Rapier.
