I'm sure this is all based on experience, because in my experience I think more baddies come off as saturday morning cartoons, or sasuke uchiha clones. It doesn't bug me though. They are free to RP whatever they want.

If you want to make a legion of doom all you realy need is a goal common enough that most evil folks wil want to aid in and a location to call home base for meetings and what not.
A DM to aid you in the things you would like to do in the game world. (As player driven rp is great and should be the focus but you wil often just need a DM to play npc's)
Then you jump in game and start to rp and see where the ship sails.

Also dont be afraid to fail its part of the fun to not know what becomes of it all and where the rp leads to for your legion.

Feel free to reach out to Bregan D'aerthe in the UD - we operate on the surface too. Should state we overall don't enjoy PvP-conflict and are unlikely to take part in RP leading to high conflict, and there are IC reasons for it as well.

I'd like to see Soubar allowed to flourish into an evil settlement and have that as the 'hub of evil' on the server. I think it's very suitable, with werebeasts, mindflayers and whatever else already there.

Yeah? Playing on both sides, I see more evil characters trying to provoke PvP than the other way around. It's in the nature of being evil: Selfishness, destructiveness and assertion of power over others. So it makes sense too.

But maybe that isn't "starting" PvP? The one who hits first may well be the good aligned character, but the provocation certainly seems to come from the evil side most of the time.

The grass really isn't greener on the other side, regardless of which side you're standing on. It's different, maybe. One side may be more trimmed and the other side grows wildly. But definitely not greener.

played both. way different.

of course playing (surface)evil that conforms to the good aligned while secretly being evil, is easy and done often. like very often. that is hardly my definition of "playing evil". none the less, while playing (surface)evil is a much bigger hill to climb. no one is forcing you to, if you do not like it. you have two choices. dont play (surface)evil or try to make the server change to be more conductive to (surface)evil RP.

which one are you?

Most of my time spent on the server has been playing a scumbad (Not exactly evil, but definitely mostly lacking morals) and I've seen about 200x as many good players instigating PvP as I have evil. I've definitely seen some PvP caused by evil characters, but, as a whole it's usually your standard "more pious than thou" paladin ready to smite anyone who rolls their eyes at them.

Outlets already exist for organized evil (example: Red Wizards, Zhents), unfortunately those guilds wax and wane (but mostly wane). Recently there is also the Temple of Auril, though hit a snag obviously... Seems to me the biggest issue is that it is rare for half a dozen or so players to want to play in the same faction that are on at the same play times. Without having folks logging in to their "muahahaha" evil toons together not much gets done. Who knows, maybe with another new round of DM's incoming there will be some additional support for the evil factions that will renew interest. However, I would stipulate that counting on DM support for long term success of any guild/faction is a bad idea since they do need to support a rather large player base and there are far more of us then there are of them. Make your own story lines/player run events and only request DM support sparingly and I bet they'd make the effort to support when it is truly needed to advance all the evil plots and what not.

I had been thinking about making an evil character on the game, however my concepts were shot down.

Concept One
My first idea was a cleric of Vhaerun. Focusing on the surface Drow part. A lot of disguise, working through others which would place him as a support character. By the book lore he would be working on protecting a city (small town and more realistically a farm that rents out a room to travelers) giving team baddies a place to meet.

The problems: Special app to be on the surface. Could never XP on the surface, and without an app could only be on the surface for X thing. The end result would be making a Drow doing all my leveling in the underdark for 20 levels or so (or 30 for high end things) and then eventually being able to play the desired concept of a cleric of Vhaerun. Or alternatively I could make an alt, level them to 20, RCA the character and use that character to make a Drow and then toss in a special app so he could play on the Surface.

Concept Two
Make a wizard that worships Shar.

The problem: I would have to take the feat faithful. Which is no problem, however if I was to touch the shadow weave I will make need to make a special app.

Concept Three
Tefling/ Green Dragon Disciple, with fey heritage.
The Problem: It is a stupid concept, breaks lore, however I could make this character right now.

How is this a problem? A lot of shadow adepts around.
