You can use your Zen Archery with slings and throwing weapons. (Years ago the Thorn Skin spell gave +1d4 piercing damage with all weapons.)

thornskin does give extra damage, but is only 1rd/lvl and is in that 3rd level slot that is pretty popular. if stuff gets crazy where i need to do more damage, spells would be the route to go.

Yeah, spamming Call Lightning while hiding behind a horde of animals could work well enough.
