Killer npcs

Unread post by luminus »

Right, so, NPCs are trained to kill ya, right.

But... if entering the cave with cursed pirates at the monkey cave (Ulgoth), you wouldn't expect a fully buffed cleric based toon of level 20 with all sorts of protections on, including elemental and death ward and alike... to get smacked like this?

Yea, I actually died after that spell.
In short what happened, I rushed in there, fully buffed, got an unknown spell on me that hit Saul for 170 (!) physical damage, no touch roll or anything. The next blow of a pirate on him, of course a 20, and BAM... 3 seconds later I was in the Fugue.

So, okay, npcs as trained killers... but guys... isn't that a little bit overpowered? 170 damage? One (unknown) spell?
I really like to know now what spell this is!!

I believe those particular pirates use drown, which could explain why you had a bad day.

Also there are belts with immunity to drown spell. Very helpful when fighting cursed pirates and druids with that spell.

'Oh, I took 90% damage, this is sooo unfair...'
- Says the player of a cleric, who is immune to critical hit Energy Drains with your Deathward spell.

Anyhow, I think this server should have a spell called "Waterbreathing" that grants immunity to the "drown" spells. Wizards, Druids, and Clerics with Water domain should have access to it.

not to sound crass, but (#2) happens when you party naked. perhaps you will consider opponents worthy now.

and yes, steadfast is better than a fill for your extra feat.

been getting randomly smoked by casters since 2016.

There is a spell that prevents drowning from working.

It is indeed called Water Breathing.

Level 3 Wizard/Sorcerer, Druid and Cleric with Water Domain- level 2.

2 hours/ level

I personally haven't tested this spell against Drowning.... but for flavor it is supposed to give you access to "Underwater areas".
If the text is this color, I am on duty, everything else is just my humble opinion.
