Are Traps still nerfed?

Unread post by Larzs »

And by nerfed I mean if I recover an epic trap and then want to use that trap it gets downgraded to a Deadly or something even less effective...I recall quite some time about some douche ruined it for everyone and started using them on the tradeway to instantly phase and melt lowbies...

I also found this little exploit that was killed quite quick...any fix on this?

I am gonna take that as a yes. Lol

From a little playing I have learned you still don't get XP from traps. Or maybe I am just too high level to even get 1 from them :(

Yes traps are still nerfed and no you don't get xp for disarming them. There was discussion about powering them up a bit several months ago, but nothing came of it.

You can blame no XP on me lol, but not fixing it...well, I guess other things came up. As for giving traps back their glory...well, damn blame that on some ass 3+ year ago ruining it for all of us noble rogue types!

Well a funny guy placed a lot of traps around the mistlake vendor today.
It's good they are still nerfed.

Well, it is crap like that that makes me want to find them and stab them. I say restore traps, keep logs on who lays what and if they abuse it, give them a token or some script mark that then makes it so if they lay traps it is the nerfed ones. As traps could really really level the field for me(and probably lots of non-casters, which I swear any attempt to do so is just killed...) when used for RP'd PvP and developed rivalries. Which is all I would use them for...

Not to mention those Epic traps got some brutal DC's to place and if you aren't good...you can very much just blow yourself up. lol

Some things your Rogue type build can do to level the playing field...

Flash Bombs
Grease Bombs
Blinding Strike
Wand of Least Mantle
Wand of Lesser Breach
Wand of Deathward
Prot f. Alignment / Lesser Mindblank scroll.
Not to mention HiPS...

Traps are not the only thing that could possibly level the playing field. Frankly Epic Traps wouldn't do that much unless you were to acquire multiple Epic Holy traps. The rest of the types can generally be protected against by casters.

While useful...still isn't quite fair and should still be restored. Casters just always seem the massively preferred and picked classes. The idea on such traps is to use them on places you know the foe and target will be...in hopes they don't suspect it and aren't quite disco balling it. :/

I think that is a D&D problem, rather than a server problem. Casters have always been more powerful at higher levels. That said, your specific request was regarding traps so I have located where they were discussed briefly in QC and opened a new topic to find out what the overall thoughts are. Epic traps had been removed before I joined the server so I am not really the best source to comment on them other than to say that the original removal had to do with some kind of exploit so they would only get back in game if the exploit can be addressed.

I could disagree with that, lol. The fact casters can get nice bonuses to AC, AB and damage that normally non-caster would cover that gap with gear that is just not possible here is hugely part of why casters have long dominated the scene. That isn't to say there aren't non-casters here that get a nice mishmash of various classes to try and be on par with them. I just want a way to set up a coordinated way to mess with and hurt my foes!! Hard to play a 28 Int Rogue that went more RP if I can't use traps or poisons or other non-directly confrontational means lol

It wasn't an exploit that removed Epic traps...it was an ass player that placed them in the tradeway outside BG. The exploit was the one I discovered that just removed the XP gain from removing/recovering traps(Which I posted that old screen shot in the first post haha) Epic traps are still in the game, and they still can utterly blow your face off if you fail recovering and setting them...it is just that if someone trips them they are degraded to Deadly or weaker and really no more then a waste of time and effort if you want to use them to weaken and kill a foe(naturally with all the RP building up to such an encounter).
