Named Planar Beings.
Okay so for the moment the system works well, But in future i see a problem when more and more people have true names . And imagine 3-4 people with the same true name and they fight OOC who to have the named planar being summoned at the time. Also if someone has their named being summoned and you try to summon it it won't warn you that it's already being summoned by someone instead it will waste your spell and then show you the text that it can't be summoned at the time. True names are very rare indeed but in time they will become more and more common and that will start to be a issue.
Spoke with someone on the server and he had a brilliant idea about the case:
1. Make it so multiple people can have the same named being summoned at the same time.
2. Make it so there is a random name generator for these creatures when summoned or be able to name the creature after negotiations are done to avoid conflicts mechanically possibly ?
3. All this with the cost of : If the named planar being is being killed the focus is shattered , so you lose the gem and you have to Re-Negotiate with the creature again if you want to bind it again.
4. Keep the Cooldown at 24 Hours i think that's fair enough.
This will make for better economy in my eyes as well considering that people will be using Diamonds more and they will possibly increase in price.

Paying 200k gold or more for something that isn't that epic only to lose it in case the game crashes, lag or something else unforseen happens...? No thank you.Mutko1 wrote:3. I RP 'deaths' of outsiders as that they escaped when they were weakened. I don't use planar beings as throwaway creatures but never know what can happen.

They are quite epic actually. The named planar beings do make a significant difference.Glowfire wrote:Paying 200k gold or more for something that isn't that epic only to lose it in case the game crashes, lag or something else unforseen happens...? I hold a named gate summon and it's a fair bit stronger than it's normal gate counterpart and it's well worth the gold spent. When the server crashes there's also usually a fair rollback so i doubt anything will be saved in the last few seconds.

I don't think they are wrong ? Named beings are supposed to have +3 HD so that's how they are at the moment.
Atleast the ones that i have are all +3 HD on top of their normal counterpart.
Don't see a reason to make them weaker!!!
EDIT: Actually the epic gate summons levels are wrong . They are all 2HD lower than they should so they should make them stronger . Epic Gate summons are same HD as Gate summons and Gate levels are correct.

Chambo is correct. Look here for information on summons.

Oh... Well that's a bummer. Only 1 HD more for true names... Kinda won't really be worth it at all in that case...

Re: Named Planar Beings.
Hi there
I am the person which Mutko1 spoke to in game.
It appears that you intend to make the named summons 1 HD higher than their normal counterpart, which in turn makes them only a tiny bit better. So i would like to put forward a few suggestions which will keep them a valuable and still used asset in game:
1. Make the summoning permanent until they are dismissed- The summons themselves are only a tiny bit better than the ordinary ones (or will be). And as Planehopper mentioned RP is important. Well, if a named summoned is permanent this allows a player to get into lengthy RP (either normally or during a large event) with the summon. The summoner also has an idea about the true named beings personality, meaning that they can additionally RP as the summon (if DMs allow). This alone would make them highly valuable (Worth all the hassle people go through to acquire them) and really make them something special.
2. As originally suggested, to ensure people treat the summon not as a throw away but as a true being, much like a player that you want to keep alive. If the summoner lets it die, then their focus should shatter, which will need replacing and they will have to go through the negotiation again, possibly at an even higher cost. This should only be for the person who summoned it at the time, not other players who have the same true named creature. If possible it may be best that this only happens if the summon is killed by an NPC rather than a player, this is to help ensure that trolls don't just kill it at random to make the summoner lose a lot of gold and a very rare diamond, which can create a huge OOC issue.
Now on how to ensure that players aren't fighting each other out of character because of the summons and to ensure that spells aren't wasted (A huge deal on BG with the lengthy wait between rests). I have a couple of ideas on how to solve this issue.
Idea 1: Allow people to summon the same true named being, but the displayed "false" name is random, this will prevent in game squabbles or frustration.
Idea 2: If the idea of a random false name just isn't possible. Then perhaps anyone who owns the same true name focus as another player, receives a prompt when that creature is summoned. That way they will not waste a spell attempting to summon the creature.

Re: Named Planar Beings.
I suggest you go read the summoning wiki more closely.
I'm not against harsher penalties for letting the being die. One thing I have considered is shattering the focus so you need a new gem to bind it, but with no gp cost.
People are not going to be able to summon the same being at the same time. Just not happening. And further, once called, a being will be locked to that player for an extended time. Measures have been taken to reduce the chance of the same name being learned by multiple players, but that is obviously just from the mechanical side. Over time more and more beings are added to the pool, and this helps keep things unique and random, but the beings need to be defined manually. So this can be a request to the player base at large, that if they have ideas for new unique beings they can send them in a PM to me. Things to include in the pm are:
If you want a permanent summon, you can take the Thaumaturge class and one summon becomes your cohort.Summoning wiki wrote:Beings that are called through their true name can be more powerful than their generic counterpart. They might have adjusted stats, special feats, spells and hitpoints. However their power comes at at cost and is always paid in gold.
