Question about one weapon feat / duelist build.

Unread post by Calen »

Working on a duelist/int build and had two questions about it

1 weapon feat: Can you use it next to combat expertise?
On the module it works so you basically have combat expertise+ one weapon +deadly defense.
How ever deadly defense is bugged on the module and you can use it with out combat expertise being active.
Just making sure before picking it.

2: Build is an 1 hander int build 10 duelist 7 Swash 10 Warrior of darkness and 3 Whirling dervish.
End stats should be 26 int and 22 dex.

I can remove 2 dex and exchange it for expose weakness +1 armor AC.
Now with 20 dex is expose weakness worth it?

Custom Combat stances can be used alongside vanilla combat modes, but cannot be used together. Thus 1 weapon will work with Combat Expertise, but it does not work alongside Northlander Hewing for instance. It SHOULD work with Deadly Defense, but I can't confirm that off hand. It worked when I tested it, but that was several updates ago. You can activate Deadly defense without Parry or CE being active, but it won't actually apply damage (again, based on previous testing, so unless something changed this statement is accurate).

-1 AC in exchange for Expose Weakness is definitely worth it IMO. You are going to have + 10 AC from INT/Duelist levels, +5 Deflection AC from Parry Ranks so you're final AC will likely look like this:

10 + 7 (DEX w/ +4 item) + 10 (INT w/ +4 item) + 5 (Deflection) + 12 (Armor/natural/Dodge) + 3 (Tumble) + 3 (CE) + 1 (one weapon) = 51. This can be increased further with feats and/or shield and IMA wands, scrolls or potions. The extra +1 from 2 more DEX is meaningless compared to cumulative AC penalty from landing EW.

Thanks for the answer, helpful one and I will be grabbing expose weakness.
I'll test in game if one hand feat stacks with deadly defense, will write the result down a bit later.

I'd be curious to see the damage this build can produce.

3.5 (rapier) + 7 (Precise Strike) + 2.5 (Darkling Weapon) +20 (Insightful Strike + Combat Insight) + 2.5 (Deadly Defense) + 4 (EB) = ~39.5 + any additional weapon damage bonus + 2d6 flourish with 12 sec. cooldown. Also gets + ~3.5 sneak attack damage from WD whenever able to flank an enemy.

DEX / INT builds such as this are really top notch on our server as far as 'non-caster' builds go due to their mix of decent damage and high AC. Will saves suffer, but in this case WoD helps there a little. Pretty decent builds all things considered. Missing out on Epic Precision from SB 12 hurts a bit though since a lot of the damage won't work against crit-immune.

I felt a bit too godly with summoner/caster builds , trying a bit more down to the ground character melee character.
The best way to describe it is that it is alright, no idea how it will work in the epics.

Picked these feats: Luck of heroes/combat expertise/Iron will/deadly defense/steadfast determination/dodge (trying one hand feat in a moment).
The other feats like Dash/blind fight/toughness/weapon fitness/spring attack come with the build.

You'll have access to UMD which puts you on 60 AC and 47 AB ,but your damage won't go very high + you'll get dispelled.
As chad stated vs undead you can't do much and about everything else that is crit imuum.

I've made an alternative build with WM which puts you 125 crit but it suffers from low will and the lack of epic precision/feats.

With my basic gear (low level crap haha) the saves hit 21 fort-25- reflex and 23 will, though I took steadfast determination for it.
You'll be sitting around 400 HP which is a bit on the low side.

It needs some gear and UMD scrolls not to get blasted away.
Maxing spell craft should help a bit as well.

Basically you can max Bluff/UMD/Tumble/Spell craft/Listen/Spot/pary and get close to maxing open lock along with about 15 diplomacy and 15 escape artist.
