Tower of the Masked Mage - RP Thread

A darkclad male form, masked and covered in magical shadows appears in a flash of light within the temple which announces his arrival in the place otherwise so dim. Yet there is no hostility but curiosity - as the figure carries another dead male in his arms towards the inner sanctum. The body is set down before the altar and he lowers his mask, seeking out one of the priests to make arrangements - rites for the dead as is proper for the followers of the faith. A sum is donated, to cover the costs.

Pale blue eyes gaze upon the dead body for a while, before the mask is drawn up and another flash of magic signals a departure. There were no more actions to be taken, not here - not now.

The followers of Vhaeraun serving in the temple would likely come to learn of who the figure carrying the body is, and with some questions asked, the appearance and perhaps even name of the dead male.

A few cycles ago, two jaluks were seen entering the Tower of the Masked Mage found within S'shamaths Darkwoods district. One of them hiding his identity behind a mask, the other carrying an insignia marking him as a faern affiliated with the School of Illusions and Phantasm.

Once inside, they found an empty table and exchanged words for a while. Those listening would have heard them speak about the Night Above and that the masked jaluk expressed the wish to venture there. They then both left and vanished somewhere deep within the woods.

Many hours later one of them returned to the tower, leaving a pray to the Masked Lord.

For the past two turnings, the Water Witch could have been seen frequenting the Tower. At first, she tended to cross the common room as quickly as possible only to disappear in one of the chambers. Lately, however, the visitors could note that she has been using the other facilities more openly, especially the craft benches.



One of these cycles, the sounds of chanting and an intense - but not unpleasant - scent of incense began emanating from one of the rooms. Those passing by the doors and versed in arcane arts would determine rather easily that a divination ritual was taking place and that the spell known as Legend Lore was being cast.

Whatever was revealed by the ritual remains between those involved. Silence filled the room afterward, disturbed only by occasional whispers.

Darkwoods Daily - The Tower of the Masked Mage

A peculiar scene took place at the Tower some cycles ago. The water witch could have been seen trailing after a pissed off Bandit.

After entering one of the rooms, a ruckus shortly ensues. The clatter of items being thrown against the walls echo down the hall as well as incensed shouting. Though the exact phrases are difficult to make out, those present would distinguish a wide array of colorful curses and the term 'surfacer'.

Some hours later, a frowny and tired witch could have been seen carrying fragments of broken furniture to the nearest trash container. Anyone who dared to glance her way would have been met with a furious look.

The likely culprit of the excessive shouting, however, departs the room with a light bounce in his step and offers his customary finger wave to those he passes. Whether his anger has passed or is merely masked by a facade is uncertain.

A worn looking Water Witch approached the Vhaeraunite Priest slowly and with a cautiously narrowed gaze. She spent a short moment speaking with the drow in quiet, reserved tones. A coin purse changed hands, and a divine conjuration spell followed. Maeve lowered her head in respect before stepping closer to the altar. The drowess looked up to peer at the statue, a thoughtful expression marking her countenance.



She left a sizeable gem at the shrine then left the Temple.

Darkwoods Daily - The Tower of the Masked Mage

The Witch retrieved a key and unlocked the door, but as she was about to enter the chamber, her steps came to an abrupt stop. Something wasn't quite right. The layer of dust where dust didn't belong and the absence of incense in the air prompted the drowess to stand still in the doorway for a moment.



A crease formed between Maeve's eyebrows, rearranging her features radically. She stepped back, locked the door and crossed the hallway that led to the Tower's common room. Tugging irritably at one of her earrings, she surveyed the surroundings taking note of whoever was present before heading to the Temple. After greeting the Vhaeraunite Priest, she moved closer to the altar. Deep in thought and with a narrowed gaze, the Witch stared at the statue of the Masked Lord.



Eventually, the drowess decided to leave three, oval-shaped emerald gems on the altar. She vacated the premises shortly after.

Veiled in the blackest silks, a shrouded female silently stirs from solemn mediation before the icon of The Masked Lord, eyes hidden behind intricate lace glancing ever so slightly, as gifts are laid before her master.

Those who frequent the Tower of the Masked Mage may have noticed that the Lieutenant of the Sshamath chapter of Bregan D'aerthe has not visited in some time. He had been visiting less since moving out of the city, to the organization's headquarters.
