Possibilities for adding desert areas?

Unread post by Darker_Thought »

Hi there,

Im curious if theres any possibilities to add deserts to this server? It would be an amazing contrast to the current content. Since theres no adjecent desert areas near Baldurs Gate that I know of (by already existing areas on the server) perhaps some alternative ways of making this possible could be of interest?

Possble locations: Anouroch desert, Plains of Purple dust or The Calim desert

How would this be able to fit into the servers lore and environment?
Etc:
- A portal(With apropiate rp reason) leading to a part of the Anouroch desert?
- An NPC Caravan offering to take you to the Anouroch desert? (for a cost)

To wrap this up. "IF" such an area could be considered:
- What would be the obstacles(Lore, Environment, DEV Resources) to implement such an area?

Calim would be amazing for 15 and up content all the way up to something that I would like to see . A dungeon that is above 30cr. I am unsure the exact state of such lore in our timeline. But we could have the black horde. Twisted rune. Cabal of liches. Purple worms. Evil pashads. The blue dracolich. It's evil vs evil at a cr level way up the board. Onyx tower. Crazy cool and could be accessed by a boat or because it so magic rich a portal is not absurd.

just to the south of our playing area is a really cool desert with tons of opportunity for middle to high end adventuring.

purple worms are 15 or more HD. correct? that would be one of the nicer creatures there.

It's considerably to the south, there are no deserts around Baldur's Gate and the Sword Coast.

well i did not imply that it was walking distance. boat or portal trip. and its a lot closer than the eastern deserts. i would even say that the calim desert has more going on too. more stuff for adventurers to get into.

Anauroch is much closer to existing areas on the server with the graypeaks area, but this one is already a very remote location that should probably be replaced.

Anyway I feel like I'm the party pooper but how does a desert, Calimshan or Anauroch can fit in "Baldur's Gate, the Sword Coast Chronicles" ? :? Having Calimshan while skipping Amn or Tethyr is unthinkable, having Anauroch without any of the surroundings areas is equally bad.

We have plenty of holes to fill along the sword cast or in the western heartland before even thinking about deserts. And NWN2 limitations being what they are it's unlikely we'll ever fill these holes to begin with.

This...

There are so many potential character types along the sword coast including seafarers, dungeon delvers, bandits, adventurers, etc. I don't see why we need desert to enhance it. More important (IMO) not to add even more areas that have very little lore basis. Folks have complained about the inclusion of a portal to Avernus so more portals that are constant is a bad thing IMO, especially since there is no way to RP closing said portal permanently.

I would so much rather be able to actual travel through the Cloudpeaks to Amn, the Umar Hills, Trademeet, etc. It fits the lore and opens up whole new regions. Likewise, going North of BG to Neverwinter and Luskan is intriguing, moreso than being able to go to one or two maps only accessible via portal that would have no impact to the rest of the server.

I would much rather see areas within the current setting flushed out to be more than 1 area between towns then to see even further distance traveled to the east or south (and considerable distance at that). I realize transitions represent "great distances" but you never really feel far away from civilization until you hit the server edge.
