languages, what are the most common

Unread post by NeOmega »

my language boxes keep popping up.
I used to pick racial languages, like elven, dwarven, etc, loosely on who the character would interact with most.
then i read it is fairly uncommon for humans to speak elven or dwarven.

so now, i keep having the dialogue box, up, and about 30 languages from various ages.
so im basically looking for a list, from first to last, of the most common dialects on the sword coast. i might pick a choice racial language here and there, but i just spend so much time reading all the language things, and am not sure what many of the areas are, or care, for that matter.

also, if its true that it is rare for humans to speak multiple racial languages, then maybe the pick a language gui should note this, and recommend the most common regional languages.

The BGTSCC wiki has all languages listed there with some lore blurb. You can read there and pick what suits your character or dig into some of the lore books to find the appropriate ones for your character's region.

i have, and for some characters, like Essar Al-Memnon, i researched and chose carefully, bevause he is from calimshan. but i cant remember all the languages and lore, etc. and for most, i don't care. they are from baldurs gate or the sword coast, so they supposedly speak a bunch of languages, that they'll never use.

also, more interested in whether it is true that it is rare for humans to speak dwarven, halfing, etc.

Elven is prob the most used one i have seen so far. 90% of the time im at the campfire and people are using a different language its Elven.
