Suggestion: Allow Temple Cleric to...
Cast Lesser Restoration?
I thought they did in the past, but they only seem to heal now.
Got hit by some kind of negative energy ray that dropped Strength by 1, and even after paying the "donation" still affected.
Not saying anything more, but Lesser should be enough for most annoyances.

A real restoration is needed if leveldrained.
And a remove curse would be great to have also.

Perhaps the temples should sell potions of restoration and potions of remove curse? No need to make them cheap either. They are needed and people will buy them. Then once you all put these in go ahead and get mean with more traps and curses that cause the effects that need you to use those.

That's less RP between players to get rid of a curse or some negative effect, is that really worth it ?

I am just talking about the little stuff.
Ability point drain is cured by a lesser restoration.
Yes I can buy them from vendors (shouldn't really, or not be infinite) and be forced to use a NPC cleric for something "trivial".

I remember in the past at the mighty level 10 walking to beregost, and accidentally finding a cursed fullplate that made me encumbered... and which I couldn't drop. So. I barely manage to get to beregost under endless barrage of magic missiles from goblin shamans, and start looking for a cleric. So, surprisingly I found one... except that they were busy (they had an IC reason for that), and couldn't deal with one annoying character burdened with a cursed fullplate they could barely carry.
So I had to very slowly walk back to friendly arms inn unable to fight, and unable to run, while being shot at by goblins. I don't remember if I made it through, or ended up taking death express.
PC interactions are great and all, but sometimes PCs are busy. For this scenario an NPC cleric should be available.

NPC clerics should be able to do those things. I'm for it getting added.

To be honest Vale yes it is worth it. This is just not one of those things that truly effects or affects the RP happening on the server. I know your duties now and RL take up a good portion of your time so time IG for you now is probably limited at this point but the RP happening is for sure not centered around economics or players running around looking to remove curses. I think you could still get that RP no matter what and by upping the cursed items and traps that do more permanent stuff players will still go for the RP of it.Valefort wrote:That's less RP between players to get rid of a curse or some negative effect, is that really worth it ?
Basically I see no reason to not implement it. RP happens. It just does. This server is excellent not because of mechanics entirely. There are a few dozen servers that all offer one different mechanic or not to cater all play styles but here there are RPers. There are DMs and there are you guys working consistently. That is what draws us players. The server is alive here and thriving for the time being due to you peeps. Adding this will have little effect on the RP happening Vale.

and for all your years here, you still have that memory, and the relief of getting the curse lifted.NegInfinity wrote:I remember in the past at the mighty level 10 walking to beregost, and accidentally finding a cursed fullplate that made me encumbered... and which I couldn't drop. i remember most, if not all my terrible curse interactions. good times.
the server shouldnt be puppies nd sunshine all day. removing the deadly and annoying from the server is a step backwards. making problems an auto npc fix is a problem. its not a curse if you can just go to the nearest temple and get it fixed. vampires aren't terrifying if it just takes a trip to the fai to get it fixed.
this is why i propsed making heal packs unable to cure disease and poisons. nobody fears disease and poison.. ..just heal pack it. so monks and paladins and a couple other classes get useless feats that make the immune.
once again, we are getting cries to remove things we dont like, because some builds dont handle it as well as others. this is essentially nerfing the builds who can, because our weaponmaster frenzied berserkers with +4 silver greataxes cant heal their own negative energy drains.

Re: Suggestion: Allow Temple Cleric to...
the injury mechanic has been discussed before. dnd says -10 points is death, but id like to bump it down to perhaps -char hp. so if you are alone, and get killed, you either slowly bleed out or head to the fugue.
if however, you get knocked below 0, you get an appropriate, but random injury, that does not heal on reset. for physical attack deaths, you could get broken nose (-10 spot, search, -4 attack, criticals do 2x damage, loss of scent if orc)' broken leg (-50% move speed, no dodge armor), broken arm (-10 attack/damage), blinded (permanently blinded, -50% move speed), decapitated (trip to fugue), etc, etc. the mechanics of healing these would preferably be RP, or suicide, (just take the xp hit).
other injuries from flaming death etc could give like -100% resistance to fire, if injured by fire, etc...
this would open up great rp, imho, and get rid of the awkward dying rp thing, not to mention the wierdness of ressurection being a ho-hum, just another ressurection event.
so id be all for removing the raise dead scrolls. it is kind of ridiculous an orc barbarian can just read a scroll, and reverse the will of the gods.
oh, and i *really* think it is inappropriate clerics of lathander would help the fallen of bane, etc. there should be some kind of moral objection for many of the clerics whose gods are in opposition to eachother, perhaps even a mechanical limitation, so clerics of gods who have moral codes, or enemies, do not force their gods to help their enemies. indeed, i would suppose a god of lathander would never grant as much as a cure minor wounds to a follower of kiaransalee.
some gods are not as discerning, but some would absolutely not help some.
to further emphasize my point about wanting bad thing for your builds gone... ...to make removing a curse or negative energy drain is penalizing alchemist and cleric builds. it is also taking a great treasure found in drops, (like remove curse or scrolls of restoration), and turning them to more junk. I personally am happy when i find a remove curse potion, or scrollmof restoration, (if i have umd or cleric/fs) because i know down the road, i may get a terrible curse.

Rather than being an awesome RP experience it was an OOC annoyance. Because I found an actual temple, had gold to pay for service, but was unable to utilize the service due to bad timing and lack of human players.
In moments like that you start feeling like you're walking through an empty movie set. See, while my character was in the city there normally would've been few hundred ways to handle that situation. I could go to tavern and hire a mercenary to take me back to beregost. Or I could go to the temple and pay to the priest. Or I could maybe talk to the blacksmith and do something about that armor - destroying it or making it lighter. In theory.
Instead... none of those optiosn were available because there was no DM and no human players to get roped into this kind of thing. The only player in the immediate area was busy acting on their important plot event, there was absolutely no way to use them to lift the curse, and because of this my character was forced to take an insane decision (due to OOC reasons) to walk several dozen miles through largely unguarded areas without an escort, companions, guards while being unable to run or properly fight.
So, this was a highly memorable negative experience and not an awesome moment.

While the above is certainly a bad experience there are also good ones. Trying to come up with a middle ground solution where player interactions are the best solution but NPC are an alternative solution ...
How about making the PC (in case of NPC cleric use) jump through hoops instead of paying gold (as that favors the rich, is instant and doesn't favor RP at all) ? Ideally something related to the faith's temple that will take you 5-10 minutes and some fetch quest at worst.

Basically, situations where you actually need a priest almost never happen, but when they do happen, there's no PC priest around.
Also keep in mind that temples and the priests have their oaths and rules, for example, a cleric of illmater refusing to help would most likely be breaking an oath and would need to beg forgiveness from their deity afterwards.
A decent idea would be to alternatively (meaning add an alternative option in addition to paying gold) replace gold cost with something related to deity's lore, but given the huge number of gods, that'll be a major pain to implement, and will need a custom dialogue entry for every religion. This simply won't happen here.
From above suggestions, I think chambordini's idea of removing "non-UMD" raise scrolls is a good one (because that always felt like cheating), but trying to complicate the process of casting lesser restoration is (in my opinion) spending time dealing with a non-issue. I mean, there are otehr sources of lesser restoration spell, and a random cleric being a jerk ebcause of it wouldnt' make much sense.

It would be much longer of course but doable, there aren't that many temples.
