Star Elves?
Perhaps Star Elf could be added as a race on the server?
We already have the rarest of rare races running around on the Sword Coast, it is an interesting to different elven concept and the lone CHA boost might relief us of some pressure from the revealed proliferation of Aasimar.
http://www.yumpu.com/en/document/view/4 ... -realms/10
Traits of note differing from other elves:
+2 CHA -2 CON
Otherworldly touch: Between sunset and sunrise the star elf confers the ghost touch ability to any melee weapon she wields and any armor she wears. If unwielded or removed the ability dissipate from the weapon or armor.
Extraplanar: Banishment, Dismissal and similar effects return them to the Plane of Sildëyuir given a failed save.
No weapon proficiencies from race
Favored class: Bard
Favored eye colour: Grey or Violet with golden flecks
Favored haircolours: Gold, red or silver
Skin complexion: light
What do you think?

Uh, that's an outsider race. Fey. That's roughly on the level of playing a pixie, sylph, or a devil, and they're rarer than a cambion on material plane. Also, fey can't be raised.Storm Munin wrote: Extraplanar: Banishment, Dismissal and similar effects return them to the Plane of Sildëyuir given a failed save.
I think this is seriously pushing it, but I'd be fine with whatever staff decides.

Re: Star Elves?
Actually the book specifies they are not an outsider race and thus can be raised. That said they are a rare race and if it was made playable it would be all but rare.NegInfinity wrote:Uh, that's an outsider race. Fey. That's nigh-outsider and you'll need location of Sildeyuir for when they get inevitably banished by monsters.ZestyDragon wrote:Actually the book specifies they are not an outsider race and thus can be raised. Perhaps a DM-approved race?

Re: Star Elves?
I'm personally against more PC elves on the server. Always bothered me that they sometimes outnumber human PCs. And not to mention the legion of outsiders we got running around.
Humans should have an option to allocate +2 wherever they want. It would represent their diversity which is known as one of their trademark strengths. Just me though.

Re: Star Elves?
Better more elves than tieflings. Key point is to remember that pcs arent the general population.

Re: Star Elves?
The ol' Forgotten Realms subrace problem. 10 types of elves, dwarfs, halflings, half-halfs, or whatever, but humans are the most diverse race with their massive number of subraces being zero, because we can't have those because its racist for humans and not for anything else.

There are no proper outsiders on the server. Only planetouched.Xanfyrst wrote:I'm personally against more PC elves on the server. Always bothered me that they sometimes outnumber human PCs. And not to mention the legion of outsiders we got running around.

Humans are awesome because they are not fake which makes the actions of the player is more natural. Not that I am trying to slight anyone but I keep running into players on here who do not portray the racial stereotyping that some races have very well.ZestyDragon wrote:Humans are boring. Pass :p

A perennial problem. Those good Drow and pacifist Orcs are so PC and have the benefit of being misunderstood.
Proposition: BGTSCC needs more Races like a fish needs a bicycle. Discuss.
Oh and Races can be replaced by Classes, Feats, Spells. You name it.

Re: Star Elves?
And now I want to play an actual fiend. Erinyes assassins are awesome - DR 5/good iron, spell resistance, immunity to fire, flight, and summon devil ability.
Sigh.
For example, ethnic groups:
To know all of this in detail you'll need PhD in Forgotten Realms. As a result a number of people who keep the human ethnic group into account is low, and number of people who try to bring it into dialogue and roleplay is even lower - probably as low as single digits.
Of course, it is always possible to play a human of unspecified ethnic group from uncertain location in vicinity of some sort of known city, but it is easier to get a better grasp of some of the non-human societies than keeping the huge number of ethnic human groups in mind.
Sigh.
Humans are very difficult to play properly, because they have a truckload of cultures, local societies, countries, there's political stuff and local history, etc. There's probably much more human-specific data than for any other race.RaiderOne wrote:Humans are awesome because they are not fake which makes the actions of the player is more natural. Re: Star Elves?
Well people can work on that, FR has allot of races, subraces, sub-subraces, and even sub-sub-subraces. There are so many variants of everything I don't expect people, or even myself, to get every specific right every time. Some of them are common sense I would have thought.
So last night we were in the upperdark (i've never been there before) and our party of 4 (Me LN karatur fighter, Guy who invited me ranger of meiliki, cleric of helm, and some elf bladesinger) run into 2 drow players hiding in the shadows. So first up I don't know the players involved very well or at all, having only played with 1 of them previously, and second this is not an attack on those players but my account of the situation.
The drow talks to us from stealth, i'm a fighter I have zero spot/listen I cant detect them. Our bladesinger can and we take a defensive stance. Then the other two players in our group come over and start a damn conversation with them, all polite like. My character would attack the drow, no talking they are the enemy. You don't wait for pirates to come board your ship to see if they wont sink it, kill you, steal your stuff, etc. Maybe they were scared? My character has immunity to fear because I have dragon warrior class levels.
I can't flag them as hostile because I can't see them and I'm stuck in this awkward position where my only option is to try and get our group to not stand there "waiting to be ambushed" as my character saw it. I did think to wisper but the drow is next to me so that wasn't really an option. It really bugged me that the players chose the options they did.
When we got back to gnomeville one of the drow players was there and one of our group started chatting with her all casual. Not to be the bluntest hammer in the shed, but given the options I'm starting that fight and if you don't back me up then I don't think much of your RP skills.
So do I think we need more races when its apparent we cant play the ones we have? nope.
