I think this is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad idea.
Sure, some folks may get some kudos, but the rest who are just as good if not better at periods of time that are not readily visible will get nothing, when they deserve kudos as well.
Leave it to the DMs who spot the kudos-quality events to give 'em.

I personally get never noticed by Dms. But I get compliments from players all the time. I'm pretty sure I'm never on in peak hours.Wandering_Woodsman wrote:I think this is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad idea.

So I don't really understand this argument. To me it's a non issue.

"suggested". key word there. i break molds here. re-invent the process. "wow" is the most appropriate word you used when discussing my RP.Thayvian wrote:aaron22 wrote:that is why i would get it every other week so that there is never any confusion or contempt. and i want the prize to be rings. rings for all my fingers and toes. bill russell can eat my poo. 11... pft i will have eleven on each finger.Wandering_Woodsman wrote:I think this is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad idea.

As a DM here previously, I loved the ability to watch/read RP that happened in the farthest recesses of the server, happening unbeknownst to most players here (well.. sometimes that was awkward but mostly cool). My point being that a lot of the really good stuff isn't witnessed by most players, so amy vote would be incomplete and only include showy/public/campfire-ish RP.
Some of the best RPers aren't well known at all.

Re: RP Player of the month awards. (concept)
I don't see the point.
I'm not RPing so I can get server wide recognition. If I'm having fun, and the people I'm interacting are having fun, that's all I need. All I can see is the potential for jealousy because so and so thought such and such didn't deserve the award over them.
And besides, as has been said, some people are either RPing outside of the generally traveled areas or are on at weird times compared to many others. Those people are all likely to get overlooked, whereas people who hang around the FAI and RP are much more likely to be noticed.
In short, it would be a difficult thing to even award fairly, even without taking into account the potential negatives.

Our server has quite a good culture of recognising one another efforts as it is. See "Thread of infinite appreciation".

To get noticed by DMs and request personal event, send PM to the DM team.Thayvian wrote: I personally get never noticed by Dms.
I beleive you're not supposed to worry about those, getting or not getting htem. I also believe that getting compliments is a wrong motivation.Thayvian wrote: compliments
Human nature.Thayvian wrote: I don't really understand
Prize means there are better and worse roleplayers. Some people will think this way.
Prize gives people reason to feel pride about themselves and look down at others.
Some people may go as far as decide that being "better roleplayers" gives them right to criticize others and and offer unsolicited advice regarding playstyle.
In my time on this server I've run into exactly two people whose "roleplaying achievements" got into their head. Those encounters were one of the most disgusting ones during my time here.
So your idea turns having fun into a competition and will promote toxic behavior. And that's why it is a bad idea.
The way I see it , a player shouldn't care about recognition, compliments, players, and getting known. In the best case scenario nobody should even know which character they play.
This game is about having fun. Not about competing with others regarding perceived quality of roleplaying.
Aye. There's no way in hell this would have a positive impact.Xanfyrst wrote:let's not go back there, aye?
