Yeah it'll likely be a trigger with auto-buttkicking-out (and/or fine) that DM can delete if they need.

Keep in mind that there is a workbench, used for crafting components and requiring a spell cast upon it to perform said crafting, located within the FAI courtyard near the merchants.

Good point, that bench should likely be moved.

The auctioneer and the bench was also placed in Roaring Shore and now Soubar for those that do not wish to remove their masks as well as UD races and Surface full Orcs who are also not allowed.

Re: Rules regarding masks in the FAI?
I guess you could say that I have actually been one of them, because I have made several custom items over the years and the unmask script was never updated to contain these items. Hence, a helmet of mine was not checked even though it can be argued to act as a mask. In fact the old appearance changer had helmet appearances that were tolerated by the script, and the same models on other appearances that were simply not tolerated.LISA100595 wrote:There is also 1 longtime player i know for sure is allowed in the FAI with a mask on.
This is a thing I discovered because I've created different characters over the years, and I usually want to give each character of mine a distinct enough appearance. So yeah, I guess you can say that I've abused the flaw in the old script, and that I have lived by it. It just depended on what I wanted a character to look like. (The masks here are just the half-face covering helmets.)
And when the Appearance Kit was added, well, I tried it out and discovered what can be done with it. I posted on the forums about it, and months later it seems people have finally listened.
So yeah, as for long time players allowed to go to places while 'masked' - it is likely only due to them using a helmet that is ignored by the script.

Re: Rules regarding masks in the FAI?
This is 100% the case. You can exploit the appearance kit to bypass the no mask check.Steve wrote:I think the problem is related to how the new Appearance Kit can change an Items look, but doesn't change the Base Tag, right? And the old "NO MASKS" script on the FAI looks at the Base Tag.
So lately, many people change normal hoods to have masks with the appearance kit, and thus, just walk on it, no problemo.
I tested it myself last night ( None of my characters wear masks, but I just wanted to see if I could bypass it.).
Coincidentally, the opposite is also true. If you have a mask that DOES trigger it, and you use the appearance kit to change it to an open face mask, it triggers the "no mask" script even though your appearance has no mask.

Re: Rules regarding masks in the FAI?
I was under the impression that the No Mask script is like the Invisibility script in the sense that it knocks you on your butt once and then you can walk straight past it without activating the trigger again. Not to muddy the waters here, I just have a hard time believing that this half-baked mechanical enforcement was EVER going to prevent people from finding loopholes (or even just demasking for the .1 seconds it takes to cross the trigger and then put their mask back on).
Maybe if the guards continuously bothered you about it or threw you outside it would work though, similar to the ones who tell you to put your weapons away inside BG proper.

"I am a personal friend of the owner"
I fully admit this is my case with Teo of Candlekeep. And, I cheat to do it. I switch masks. And I am sure its what started this thread.
Teo -is- a personal friend of Bently as he was part of the team of "adventurers" who cleared the temple of Bhaal and helped him establish the inn. This was an IC event series when I first arrived at BG some 10 years ago.
So, I refuse to accept this "no mask w/o exception" rule. Sue me.

That's godmoding and should be reported to DM. They are not friends of the owner.Rask wrote:I have approached people IC about wearing masks, pointing out the illegality. They usually say things like "I am a personal friend of the owner" or "The guards do not seem to mind" ect.

Personally I dislike the border customs-style control and I think it should be removed entirely, even if it means straying away from the lore (it'd not be the first time, not even the 50th time), the mechanics are silly and no one roleplays them because they're not very roleplayable.
Pretty much this.

I'm not going to report something so mundane. It's honestly harmless in the end, this kind of thing.NegInfinity wrote:That's godmoding and should be reported to DM. The purpose of the thread was more to discuss what other people thought, and if maybe we should consider changing the FAI?

Re: Rules regarding masks in the FAI?
Please do something. This is just ridiculous. Someone summoned an Archon a few moments ago and started attacking a guard with it. People buy ale from bently while wearing masks. They run around with weapons drawn. It's just so immersion breaking to see guards standing around silently watching as they are pummeled by an angel.Valefort wrote:I'll take a look at mechanical enforcement when I go back home, "masks" and spells ... prepare your behinds silly people.
Edit: If the problem is that one player has special permission then can we at least get a DM to enforce the rules once in a while? Have Bently hand out a few month long bans from the inn.
