Help me choose! (I'm all over the spectrum)

Unread post by The Oblivious One »

I have missed the Sword Coast, and I see many things have changed, but wanderlust got the better of me and I have been back on roaming around doing a little light RP and exploring some of the new lands. Great job to the Devs team btw!

Now, to the point! I simply cannot decide which build I should invest my time and dedication into. Please, help me decide!
(SORRY, I CANNOT POST URLS so copy paste the nwn2db links)

Contestant number 1: My Fighter Arcane elemental archer elf assassinator nwn2db.com/build/?282459

Contestant number 2: Another Elf, a cleric of shevarash, gee is that the least agile elf you ever saw or what? nwn2db.com/build/?283324

Contestant Number 3: Taking advantage of the new (to me) Archmage PRC but with a twist:
The Arch-Trickster nwn2db.com/build/?283326

Contestant Number 4: He is stuck up, he is aloof, his nose is always in a book, he is dedicated to Azuth, the Logical Wizard: nwn2db.com/build/?283327

Last but not least, he's a goody goody, the ladies love him, but he doesn't know how to talk to them, the Divinate of Torm: nwn2db.com/build/?283328[/list]

I know that is a lot to look over, but I know some of you love it, so keeping in mind- Playability from Level one onward, interacting with others (how will he/she fit in), what seems fun to you, and general color and flavor. And is anything completely crippling/gimped?

*I have stat boosting items too- i.e. wisdom boosting for the Cleric of Shevarash to be able to cast level 9 spells

I would say it is forest important for you to consider which character personalities you would enjoy rping for the foreseeable future. If all comes out equal there, what mechanics do you enjoy? A caster, archer, or melee plays very differently and you may not enjoy them all.

Happy to give feedback on builds, but there is so much that depends on you the player that narrowing it down a bit would help give more specific (useful) feedback.

The first build is tried and prove build on this server.

The second build will have neat domain powers and a lot of casts of Divine Power, which is largely all you need on this server as a cleric.

The third build would be better if you swapped last wizard level into another level of rogue. It can be slow to level, but invisibility spell allows you to grind the weekly quests in relative safety. Personally though, I would switch Archmage for Arcane Scholar for the many metamagic feats it grants to get most out of your touch attack spells. Additionally you could free a feat on either Clap of Thunder, Acidic Splatter, or Invisible Needle reserve feat, which should work with your sneak attack dice.

The fourth build can be quite interesting. But you can take the Automatic: Still spell feats prior to Silent feats on this server. (The base spellcraft skill requirement was lowered.) Additionally you should take your 2nd and 3rd cleric levels at levels 19 and 20. The fourth and final cleric level should be taken at level 30. You should be able to get along with Candlekeep faction if it is active, Red Wizards, and with the general campfire tea-sipping.

The fifth build, is a Paladin. It is mechanically sound with a possibility of leading into all manner of conflicts IC and OOC.

So... How about you just roll a d20? If 1-4, option one. 5-8, option two. 9-12, option three. 13-16, option four. 17-20, option five.

Thanks for the feedback.

I was wondering about the Arcane Fire for Archmages and if it gets sneak attack dice since it can critically hit. Yeah, that build only has 7d6 sneak attack, but at level 10 AM Arcane Fire could do 19d6 and another 7d6 for 26d6 in magic damage if sneak attack works. Otherwise there is really no reason to waste those feats and not take Arcane Scholar instead. Just the badassery of a magician flinging Arcane Fire for massive damage sounds fun- and it does have acidic splatter too btw.

I have it narrowed down to two classes I believe.

I tried a paladin as an experiment, as my first good PC on the server, and was suprised how much fun he was. I was shocked actaully!
But, not necesarily because he was a paladin. It was because I had thought out a neat background and more importantly a specific purpose for him, and a great role, in game. The character was well flushed out. He had goals and things to do. He had reasons to walk up to strangers and start RPing with them, very interactive and with lots of character.

I have created another good character for a specific group and purpose. A pretty interesting build with monk levels. First time trying to RP a monk. I have bored some players already, with her attempts at being a wise monk, which is fine because it matches her low CHR score. She is fun but because she has a specific use I did not focus on giving her an ingame purpose like I did the paladin, since one was already created for her. So far, she has not nearly the depth of the Paladin, and so far, she is not as interesting or fun as the Paladin was.

I am not saying to choose a good character, or a paladin or to not choose a monk.

I would look at your contestants and think about which one has the strongest backstory, personality and most character. Which one will stay entertaining even when there is nothing going on in game. The one with most purpose. The one you imagine is the most vivid or real or has the most style.

Or maybe look at the contestants and at the same time think up some backstories and goals - and figure out which contestant will best match said goals. One usually shines once you think what kind of trouble you want to cause in game :happy-bouncyshadowgreen:
