TKL Performer, Transcription and Learning?

Unread post by Apis »

I am really enjoying bardic roleplay, and especially using the TKL Performer tool. I am getting the hang of it, I think, though I am not musically inclined so it's a slow process.

One thing I can't seem to figure out, is how to use transcribed songs. I've played on other servers where this tool was used, and I know they've worked, but its been so long ago that I am not sure if I am doing it right, if there is a bug, or if they are intentionally not working?

My previous experience was that, once you have sheet music in hand, you can 'use' the item on yourself to load up the song (if you have an instrument equipped), or load the lyrics (if you do not).

When doing that here, nothing happens.

Can anyone explain how it 'should' work? Do I need more perform? Do I need to do something else with the sheet music? Is there a bug?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If we could get this to work it will open up a lot of further bardic RP, sharing songs.

I was able to find another thread created for this same issue, that is nearly a year old. Pardon my broken link, the forums are restricting me from posting links (viewtopic.php?f=25&t=56196&p). It looks like that inquiry went unanswered publicly, does anyone know if something was done privately to help?

Is the developer still around who hooked the script onto the server? If not, would another developer have time to take a peek and see if there is a bug or an intentional block on learning from transcribed sheet music?

Thank you!

I will be frank and tell you, i can't help you with that tlk Performer tool. But i can give you a tip how i learned the way bard RP is played here. :)

I've been playing in the White Mask since spring last year. I was told that the tlk performer is not needed (unless you would like to use it). Most players either write song by text and emotes themselves. Or they use real songs and just make minor or greater changes to them. Some even use real songs as they are.
Then they perform them with Client Extension. With that tool you can copy & paste and also work with text colors.

It doesen't really matter if you use the tlk performer or not or how you RP your songs out. If it's done well and people have fun with it, all is great.
If you have any questions, please PM me in the forum or poke me in game. I hope this still helped even if i couldn't answer the actual question. ;)

Thank you for the experienced perspective. So far I've RP'd a mix of 'RP playing' and actual playing, both work great. Adding new lyrics to existing songs, composing new, etc. None of them are going to be entered into the halls of fame by any means, but I think it portrays the character well and I have had positive feedback from players IG.

I do have fun with the tool though, as it is, and there are a handful of other players that I've met that also do well with it. I'd love to see the transcription work, and from a conversation with Endelyon it may be being addressed eventually. (it also gives the ability share lyrics)
