Appraise creature vs Bears
I tried to appraise somebody's bear (animal companion).
Got a... "You see a male cretin" message (at which point I went ... "Huh?").
Works the same way on all bears.

Cretin is the default word used when it can't find the race appropriate word in its dictionary.

Cretin, a person considered to be foolish or unintelligent.
