Maximum Dexterity Bonus Question

So I’m not sure if this is a bug or simply a mechanic I don’t completely understand: My character has two sets of armor. One set of armor has a Maximum Dexterity Bonus of 6 (Light Armor) the other has None (Cloth). However when I transition between the two pieces of Armor my DEX modifier (+8) remains unchanged as does my attack bonuses. It was my impression that the Light Armor would limit her DEX modifier to 6 but that doesn’t seem to be the case unless I’m completely missing something – which I probably am.

The dex bonus restricts the amount dex can add to armor. afaik it doesn't restrict dex in other ways.

I would just use the cloth, it weights less.

max dex doesnt do anything to hinder your attack bonus

your max dex for AC does go down to +6 but if you are using leather (+2/+6) then you are probably seeing the same AC since its +8 in leather and cloth is giving you your full dex because its unrestricted

but yes at that point you are better in cloth or padded which is 1/9
