Changes to spells per day?

Unread post by Calantyr »

Has the server changed the way in which spells per day are granted?
I've got a 5th Bard (CL 6) with 13 Charisma. According to regular NWN2 I should have access to 2nd level spells, but I don't. I KNOW some, but have 0 2nd level spells per day.

I have no Charisma-boosting gear, so that's not causing any bugs.

Edit: Alright, after resting (again) I now have 1 2nd level spell. But I should have 3 2nd level spells.
What on earth is going on?

1 Rogue/5 Bard. 13 Charisma, and I also have Practiced Spellcaster (Bard).

That means you have 3 level 2 known spells and 1 spell per day. There's nothing wrong, CL doesn't matter, the number of levels giving you spell progression does, here it is 5.

Ah, Practiced Spellcaster only rises Caster Level, not spells per day or available spell level. Gotcha. I thought it was an all-in-one thing.

Does the ability need to be a natural score for bonus spells, or do item boosts enter into it at all?

Base ability, enchantment bonus, and spellcasting prodigy all increase the number of bonus spells derived from your primary spellcasting stat.

Technically a Wizard casting Fox's Cunning for +4 intelligence on himself gains extra spell slots. The only downside is that those bonus slots are lost upon resting. Thus the +4 intelligence item is needed to get the most amount of spells possible.

Item boosts count, unless you're Blackguard or Assassin. Those two classes (unless something changed) utilize base values instead.

However, one thing you need to keep in mind is that if you remove the item that grants boosts, extra spell slots will poof.

Can an Assassin with an INT of 12 and a +2 INT item cast 4th level Assassin spells? I realize no bonus spells will be added but what about the access to 3rd and 4th level spells?

That doesn't work as the assassin spells are feats.
