Some odd item behavior (Blushing mermaid basement shop).

Unread post by Winterborne »

There's a set of flails there that are clearly just modified shortswords as follows:

Along with others similarly made.

These items, despite being small and requiring rogue proficiency, are not usable with weapon finesse. Could they be changed to either be finessable, similar properties added to finessable items (like maces, along with the downsides of doing so like the reduced crit range and damage), or be more clearly visibly non-finessable (and get the flail's normal 1d8/x3 stats) or something?

This thread explains the small flails... not sure if they can be made finnesse weapons as qc approved the change. They can be used in the off hand wrote twf bulls without requiring oversized two weapon fighting.

I'm bumping this up by adding that I ran into the same issue upon purchasing the flail recently :-/. As winter noted, it seems to have all the standard stats of a short sword (19-20 crit range, 1d6, small size) but the item being listed as "flail" might be interfering with it being regarded a "light weapon" in game.

please read the thread I linked. It explains how light flails work in game. This is a known issue, but it's not very easy to address.

Shouldn't this blackjack item at least be changed to a mace? Or a club, perhaps. It'd be more fitting to have it be a bludgeoning weapon. Or at least alter that 'light flail' type to do bludgeoning damage, which would be thematically more appropriate to both the item in question as well as the weapon type.

I read through that thread but didn't see a QC ruling on it one way or the other. I hope they are made finessable though, as there currently aren't any vendor sold +4 small weapons that give a bonus to hide/move silent while still being friendly to rogue proficiencies (there is a kukri, but obviously that can't be used by a rogue unless you buy martial profiency or dip into a martial class).
