Increase Appraisal Skill for Epic Shops

Unread post by adobongmanok »

Hello, I love the new epic shops. I just have one concern, I checked the prices with 2 different characters. One with low appraisal skill and one with REALLY High appraisal skill (About 40 appraisal skill difference). It seems that the merchants are quite...easily to be persuaded to sell cheaper price. Could we increase their appraisal skills a little bit?

What? Why? How do you think this is a problem? I'm sorely tempted to the believe the OP is joking or winding up a friend... but I'll bite.

If you choose to invest in a character with a high Appraise skill this is the reward you get. If you don't, but choose some other mechanical advantage or RP advantage then you pay more, or use Merchant PC middlemen.

40 points of skill is substantial. You are a silver-tongued deal-maker at that point and quite capable of setting yourself up as a true merchant (like some players do) to provide middle-man services for everything from heal packs to epic items...

What possible benefit is to be gained from making changes to a system that works? How are you proposing to make it better?

Unless I am misreading the original poster, I think he wants appraise skill to do something. The player is getting the same prices with a low and a high appraise character. With that amount of points investment, the lower appraise character should pay a lot more.

It already does. That high Appraise character gets the maximum discount every single time. The character with the lower Appraise is far more dependant on your skill roll. I once checked a store once per day for 11 days to get the 'low' price I happened to see once before.

The previous avernus shop had a higher appraise DC to get the 30% discount. Unless I was crazy that time, then keep the system as it is. I'll just abandon my trader char on vault until something more is worthwhile.

PS: just need about appraise of 30~ to get full discount. I opened the shop 5 times so I'm quite sure thats all you need to roll that 30%.

You only get one roll per reset, it doesn't matter how many times you open the shop.

There's a new roll every time your appraise score changes.

does that count losing and gaining gr. heroism?

ex.
-check vendor w/ gr heroism active (bad roll)
-rest (skill point drop)
-reapply gr. heroism (skill pt increase)
-recheck

If you also check the vendor while not having heroism then yes.

Yeah I checked with like 50/60-something Appraise yesterday, and did not get the full discount. I slapped on full Appraise gear, and then got the full discount.

I think you just lucked out that time.

Up to a limit of two rolls per merchant per reset, unless that has been changed.

the appraise skill starts to have no change at 75 appraise up to 90.

Theodore tested with feats, skills, and buffs and found out that 30% is the maxed discount one can have and not exceeding that even with higher appraisal skills
