I would prefer if forum RP was discouraged. I hate parallel world RP.Steve wrote:Back in the day when I was DMing on BGTSCC, there was intention for Forum RP to be rewarded, concretely. I remember doing this often. I also remember there was intention for DMs to give out small but appreciative amounts of RP XP as they float around the Server, IG.
But yeah, Make Guilds Great Again!
How about XP loss upon engaging in form rp instead of IG rp? Probably an overkill, though.

Re: Extra RP XP
And actually...Forum RP is not parallel world RP, as that would be metagaming—Forum RP must be ALIGNED to IG RP.
My point is that Experience is most justifiably gained when a Character is actually doing something. Grinding is a basic "thing" to be doing, and is the defacto base of how this game was created.
But this Server and Permanent Worlds go far beyond that basic structure, and allow for a greater range of Actions that provide progression in Character development, facilitated by role-play.
For what a Player puts in, they should get out. Something near equal returns. If not, the real or meta "loss" will end the interest of the Player. Trust me, it happens A LOT.

Uh, the answer is obvious, isn't it...Steve wrote: Why are you so bloody NEGATIVE all the time?!?
My problem with forum rp is that you have people on the forum - that "stand at the docks", "observe each other", "chat", "argue", etc. But if you actually head in that place, there's nobody there. Which is annoying, and which is why I call it a "parallel world RP". It is especially prevalent in auction subforum.Steve wrote:And actually...Forum RP is not parallel world RP, as that would be metagaming—Forum RP must be ALIGNED to IG RP.
Stuff is supposed to be happening in place, is described in detail, but if you actually go there, you can't witness it. Even if you stake out the place for 24/7. That's why it is a "parallel world RP". It is events that happens in a very convenient location which you can't accidentally visit.

Re: Extra RP XP
I never take Forum RP as something that is happening "at that moment." I've always looked at it as supportive of what has happened, or what will happen.
A lot of Forum RP is to setup IG events, give updates, give IC feedback, etc. Should that warrant some special RP XP reward? Sure, you can argue no, and hopefully give reasons why it would be unreasonable or even unfair to do so, in light of how many Players are not interested in the Forum (except to argue!
)
Forum RP is best utilized as a means to document what PCs are doing in-game. THAT is what is very beneficial, if you need DM assistance or approval for IC, IG, etc. actions. Forum RP can also give insight to PCs and their actions, especially considering the entirely lame and difficult Chat options. Trying to put all your RP powers and Character into a flashy Emote time and time again...argh, it is a terrible form of writing, and often, tough on the role-play. And I'm not even talking about spelling mistakes!!!
Should Forum RP occur that has no basis in what can actually happen IG? No. That is the slippery slope that Players need to keep their sure footing on.
Nonetheless...when I was a DM, it was always my goal to reward Players, even when I had to be "that guy" that punished Players. Reads like an oxymoron, but it was a goal!
Thing is, its super easy to make a Player feel appreciated, in what they do to keep role-play alive and kicking on this Server. DMs have that ability...but Players also have that ability, and Players shouldn't forget that—there is a lot you can do with being generous of your time and your "stuff," for others.
I learned that from M3nt, AC81, Valefort, Theodore, Invoker, etc. many many more that have come and gone.
Anyway...this getting off track. Good night!

I dislike that. It creates "overly safe sandbox", especially when RP is going on a locked guild forum.

Re: Extra RP XP
A) you must just have bad luck, Negs. Do you ever PM people and say you want to get involved? You gotta just accept that with RL and time zones, quite a lot OOC communication happens to facilitate good IG manifestations. I'm assuming you're exaggerating, but if you spent months waiting on someone or something IG to happen after a Forum post, without some OOC contact about it, then...
B) ever thought about joining a Guild? Many times you've expressed a play style that involved RPing a loner character that doesn't easily shake hands...well, what can you honestly expect? GET INVOLVED, MAN!!!

I prefer spontaneous roleplay, and setting things up through OOC means tend to leave a bad taste. Once you've formed an IC connection, things get easier, but the initial setup is a major pain.Steve wrote:A) you must just have bad luck, Negs. Do you ever PM people and say you want to get involved? I joined some. This doesn't work out most of the time. I had an amazing experience of guarding a door for 5 hours straight once, though.

Re: Extra RP XP
@ Mr. Negsativity:
You're probably not the only person that appreciates and hopes for spontaneous roleplay. But at the same time, you lament not being able to find it. So, you sit within your self-created problem, not taking the initiative to fix it, for yourself. You're not getting what you want, you're not positive about making efforts in different ways that haven't "left bad tastes," you complain about this and that OOC with the Server, and probably complain about Player's RP as well (I'm just too lazy to search that out, atm, from you).
If you see negativity everywhere, you will experience negativity everywhere. This is not some wishy-washy sudo-psychological opinion, mate. This is fact: "...disruption arose as a result of increased levels of negative thoughts."
Have you every heard of the term "Attitude adjustment?" I think you need one. In truth, you and I and a bunch of others probably all share in one fact: we have "issues" or "complaints" about how the Server is run, how the mechanics are, how the mechanics aren't, etc. But the big difference is what you're going to do about it...complain? Actually try to fix them? Complain about how no one lets you try to fix them? Complain about the complainers who complain about how complaining is nothing more than complaining?!?!!?
Get a positive attitude, and take that into the Game, mate. Otherwise...not only do you drag yourself down, but you drag done other people, who probably would want to help you have fun on BGTSCC, but you're so determined to make it difficult for them by bringing the "NegInfinity" attitude!!!
How about this: I dare you to change your Forum name to PosInfinity, and try putting on the charm. Howboutit?!?

Your nickname is now officially Stave.Steve wrote:@ Mr. Negsativity:
Sigh. The problem is, you don't know what my characters do, because you never interacted with any of them. Even though some of them participated in Polvich plot as part of their retirment campaign. You also don't really know much about Me either, because you as a player never interacted with my characters as a player.
And so you're making incorrect conclusions, dude. Bad Stave, bad!.

I'm workin' with what you post, Negs. As in, previously since you joined the Server.
I'm just saying you got a lot of negative thoughts and opinions about A LOT of what BGTSCC offers, and honestly, you don't really sound like you're enjoying yourself!!

There's no limit to RP XP per reset.Steve wrote:The limit of 1400 per reset is really so low that if some Players can RP in an Interior for 1-2 hours and gain 1400 xp, that's kinda great...

This is a change I wasn't aware of!
So what does Staff consider a fair rate of RP XP per hour, say you and another or you and 5 others are involved in IC discussions?
