Re: Imagine
i think that the AI would defeat anyone in this game in a 1v1 arena 99 times out of 100. maybe more. given equal toons mechanically to play with.
the open world and multiple hive minds with factions and server limitations, there is no way the computer AI will obliterate the player base. a plain ol 18HD troll barbarian will not be able to overcome the mechanical limitation to give a level 30 toon a really hard time. but 35 in a hive mind covering the whole troll claws map could give a very formidable opponent to a balanced group of 3 at early epic levels. maybe even be too much for them. but not a couple groups.

Not really. Especially characters with customizable spellbooks.aaron22 wrote:i think that the AI would defeat anyone in this game in a 1v1 arena 99 times out of 100. maybe more. given equal toons mechanically to play with.
Even more so if the opponent is me.

It's D&D, there's a lot of randomness. Just a meleer without any items against himself, there's no subtelty to try, it's he who deals more damage first ^^

Grapple checks. Tripping the other opponent and then striking while they cannot retaliate. Using 5 foot step to keep out of their range but return to range when attacking. Lots of options.

The AI has faster reaction speed than any player. Assuming the spellbooks are equal and they start at a distance, that might level the playing field even more, especially since the AI metagames your buffs and cheats on rolls.
Only if the A.I isn't made to simulate a living creature.
Only A.I who could do this ICly might be an ancient lich. Larloch maybe.

Which should in an ideal world be curbed as it leads to players having to make OOC considerations for their play not to make them want to jump off a cliff. Well, not this part. But other AI behaviours yeah.CleverUsername123 wrote: Except the game's AI actually does this on all characters. It knows what buffs you have and chooses spells based on that.
The reason "how to progress as blaster" works is because A.I is dumb. It is dumb in a way that fits undead and animals, but not stuff at least as intelligent as a troll.

What do you mean with todayCleverUsername123 wrote:

I already fought mirror matches in DM events. Won almost all of them. The AI has faster reaction speed than any player. Assuming the spellbooks are equal and they start at a distance, that might level the playing field even more, especially since the AI metagames your buffs and cheats on rolls.
It's very nice to talk about this stuff on paper. And useless.
The moment we play, you'll see what I mean.

I'll volunteer to be invokers second, it'll be like having the day off.
And once you've travelled with Kor'vain as much as I have, you'll understand the difference between "too much self esteem" and "a realistic view of one worth"
He's gotten better, he'll actually give me time to tire myself out on bosses.

Funny you say that, when your former post was:CleverUsername123 wrote:
Things are derailing fast though. We're not here to talk about Invoker or to make alt accounts complimenting ourselves. We're... complaining about the AI?
So: you are derailing the thread. You are talking about Invoker, and you are indirectly complaining about both.CleverUsername123 wrote:

You also managed to call my friend Velaris an "alt account" (good luck with that, if you want to label all my friends as such...lots of alts
I don't have anything against anyone mate, you included, but you're not looking too sharp, right now
The AI is extremely good at abusing HiPS for obvious reasons, but not as good at managing spellbooks, especially interaction between spells. The more complex the spellcaster, the more difficult it is for the AI to deal with the spellbook: that's why it's better off as Spirit Shaman or Sorcerer, and horrible at handling wizards.
The AI will destroy you if you play spotter HiPSer vs spotter HIPSer, for instance, or cheating with the dice in any "autoattack" mirror match, as Valefort mentioned.

Slightly paraphrasing:
I jest, I jest, but it is a true story still.
Edit:
Anyhow. Since I have not played on Underdark in a very long time, I did roll a somewhat cheesy powerbuild and discovered that my character's will save was not nearly high enough against some low level content such as Illithids. The stun DC on their mindblast thingy, one that they already spam on each round was just too high for my build at his current level. Which meant that bad rolls was all it took for my character to become a sitting target.
A part of me actually considered RCR-ing into some EDM Favored Soul at that very moment.
Now, the harder the sever becomes, the more EDM Favored Souls you will find on the server. Because the harder the server gets, the more you need the blanket immunities, high saves, self healing, with high AB, AC, and Damage output with spontaneous spellcasting.
Edit II:
I am of the school of PvP that approaches it based on how likely am I to lose it.
1) I am facing a fully buffed up hostile arcanist with summons in tow.
2) I have no wands or potions, or other means of evening out the power difference.
3) Thus I will toggle the arcanist hostile, 'tab + q' and go get a drink while praying for the dice god land me as many natural 20s as possible...

Simian: Hey Invoker, care to come see some nasty monsters in this one area. You do not have to worry about me taking your mantle of PvP god on this server. I am already dead and fugued.
Invoker: I would love to, but, but, ummm... What to say... What to say... Ah! My party is not really interested in going there. Sorry mate.
Simian: *Checks the scrying tool, and player list, only two players online.* Oh, it is too bad.
... * Some time passes * ...
Invoker: Hey, I guess I could come and have a look... I think it was bit unfair to be fugued by that...
Simian: No worries, I have already talked with Myrkul. But you have fun, you have fun!
Invoker: *Sweat drop of horror on Invoker's forehead.*
... * A very short moment later: Invoker has logged out * ...

You know, I still hope I'll get to fight those, some day. From your description, they sound really interesting. Especially if the dynamic reaction is somehow triggered...I sooo wanted to cast Banishment on them!!
I heard those spawns are coming back in game...can't wait!

Hmm...I didn't notice that. Been there a few times this week, but my character has very high will save for a warrior, so he is pretty much immune to it: they don't even try, preferring more direct dmg attempts. Do you remember the DC, by any chance?
Could be. Possibly Druids, Bards and Warlocks as well, for similar reasons. Now, the harder the sever becomes, the more EDM Favored Souls you will find on the server.
